Members of the Elks National Foundation recently spent time in St. Louis for the Elks National Convention, held at The America’s Center Convention Complex. Although the delegates have since left town, their care and kindness remains in St. Louis thanks to a generous donation of $10,000 to The BackStoppers, a local organization that provides financial assistance to the families of first responders who are killed in the line of duty.
“We had a lot of fun in St. Louis,” explains Lou Sulsberger, then-chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Elks National Foundation, which made the donation. “But we care about the community, too, and the people who keep it safe. That’s what this donation is about.”
Sulsberger presented the check to St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson, who is a BackStoppers board member, on June 29 during the ENF’s donor event at Busch Stadium.
“I can’t tell you how great this donation is,” says Chief Jenkerson, who is also a member of St. Louis Elks Lodge No. 9. “From my heart and every fallen officer’s spouse, thank you very much.”
The Elks National Foundation is headquartered in Chicago and helps Elks build stronger communities through programs that support youth, serve veterans, and meet needs in areas where Elks live and work. Their National Convention took place in St. Louis from June 29 to July 3.
