Guests of the Oasis Beyond Books event mingled at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild in Clayton to celebrate its 30th year. Tutors enjoyed conversation with students, other tutors and educators at a reception that included cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Paul Weiss, president of The Oasis Institute, and founder Marylen Mann both spoke at the event and highlighted how the program works in partnership with school districts to pair volunteer tutors with children in kindergarten through third grade. Guests had the opportunity to donate a favorite childhood book. Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring is a rare program that positively impacts two generations and has successfully expanded to 14 states and multiple school districts within the metro region.
