Hais, Hais & Goldberger has been providing family law services for the St. Louis area for more than 30 years. Started by Susan Hais and later joined by her husband, Sam, the couple has brought together their individual strengths and their dedication to family to create the ultimate powerhouse in family law.
The firm has grown since its inception with attorneys like Elliott Goldberger – the third powerhouse to the firm’s name. Sam Hais notes, though, that in keeping with the specific practice of family law, they’ve purposefully kept the number of lawyers at no more than eight. “That’s a good amount to keep it manageable while still being able to service all the needs of our clients,” Sam Hais confirms. The firm has also used the services of accountants, psychologists or psychiatrists for specific cases. “When appropriate, we utilize the services of expert witnesses or advisors in family law cases.”
Hais says that the firm’s success is owed to knowing the value of family. “When people come here and tell us their marital problems, we try to give them the best advice we can from their point of view. We put their troubles into perspectives with which we empathize.” Sam Hais adds that helping people going through these emotional times is what he and his wife consider the biggest reward of the practice.
“Susan and I have been married a long time,” Sam Hais says. “It’s not a question of having to go through a divorce to understand the slings and arrows of it. It can be a very, very upsetting experience, and we understand that. We put the clients first above our own wishes.”
Putting clients first also means being patient throughout the entire process. “[We’ve learned] if we go out of our way to explain the intricacies of trial procedure, it’s much easier to make clients understand the goals,” Sam Hais explains. “We try never to add to their stress and we find that they appreciate that.”
A quick look at the firm’s testimonials is proof that their clients agree, and so are the awards that the Hais, Hais & Goldberger firm boast. “Susan set up a great firm. I’ve been fortunate to be a member of it after having been a judge for more than 20 years,” Sam Hais says. “It’s been great. We share everything; our work, the things that we’re interested in, whether it’s work or play. It’s been a blessing.”
