Ashley Sewell and Patrick Ryan were worried about the weather: The forecast for their big day, over Memorial Day Weekend in Cape Cod, was predicted to be cold and rainy. But the storm clouds stayed away and sunshine blessed the beaches for the couple’s nautical nuptials.

St. Louis recently welcomed Prince Louis de Bourbon, Duc d'Anjou and his wife, Princess Marguerite, in honor of the 250th anniversary of the city’s founding, as well as the 800th anniversary of the birth of Louis IX, the city’s namesake.

St. Louis' 250th birthday isn't the only milestone of the year: Plenty of area businesses are celebrating 25, 50, 100 or more years of service to local customers. We congratulate them on their decades of success!
At a black-tie reception and dinner at the Racquet Club of St. Louis, members of the German American Heritage Society of Saint Louis (GAHS) honored board members Wilma Prifti and Shirley Aschinger. Prifti received the 2014 GAHS Friedrich Hecker Freedom Award. She served as the project director of the German-American Student Exchange Program at St. Louis’ Higher Education Center for 30 years. Aschinger, who has been on the organization’s board of directors for the past eight years, received the 2014 GAHS Stemmler-Hecker Founder Award.
The Saint Louis Club
The Saint Louis Club Ballroom recently has been renovated to include a soft color palette of creams and grays to complement any wedding, as well as 17-foot ceilings and new furnishings, draperies and flooring. The Ballroom also offers one of the best panoramic views of St. Louis; and on most days, the Gateway Arch and downtown skyline are highly visible.
From the time Dr. Denise Hooks-Anderson was a little girl, becoming a physician was all she ever wanted to do. “I was a doctor for all of my dolls, and I would watch different doctor shows like Marcus Welby, M. D.,” she recalls. “I always kept that dream and desire, and just went full speed ahead after it.” The Arkansas native, who came to St. Louis in 2000, also was inspired by her childhood doctor. “He was truly the old-fashioned type, and I wanted to emulate him. I didn’t have any female physician role models, but it didn’t matter to me. That’s just what I wanted to do.”
