Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis will be kicking off its Unsung Heroes Dinner Series on Monday, June 23, at 6 p.m. The dinner will feature six of St. Louis’ finest sous chefs, underutilized parts of a hog and products from local farmers. Participating sous chefs include SHIMON DIAMOND of Cielo Restaurant & Bar, JUSTIN MCMILLEN of Sidney Street Café, RYAN MCDONALD of Juniper, JOSH POLETTI of The Libertine, ALEX FELDMEIER of Brasserie, and SUMMER WRIGHT of Floreat Bakery. The opening cocktail reception will feature Cielo’s Four Roses Bourbon and a variety of local brews, and the dinner will incorporate plenty of fresh products from Jones Heritage and Such and Such Farm. There've been a bunch of new places opening up on the local drinking and dining scene specializing in either whiskey or pizza. The Blind Tiger at Sutton Place in Maplewood offers a bit of both.
After a bit of a search, Central Table Food Hall in the CWE finally has a new executive chef: Darnell Devine. A CIA grad, Devine most recently was at the Everglades Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. He replaces chef Nick Martinkovic, who left earlier this year to become exec chef at Blood & Sand.
Hot on the heels of his latest venture, restaurateur DAVID BAILEY has announced he'll be opening yet another concept this year. The as-yet-unnamed barbecue eatery will be located at 1011 Olive St. in Midtown, and will feature a 200-seat restaurant and an additional 150-seat event space. The rooftop will house a separate bar that will operate independently. Look for an opening this winter.
The folks at The Libertine are branching out into the world of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). The popular Clayton eatery is now offering subscriptions to its new CSA, which will include a bag of locally produced food each week for pick-up, as well as house-made delights from their kitchen, courtesy of chef JOSH GALLIANO. There are several levels and types of subscriptions to choose from, including omnivorous, paleo, vegetarian and vegan options. Huge congratulations to chefs GERARD CRAFT and KEVIN NASHAN, who have both been chosen as finalists for the James Beard Foundation Awards Best Chef: Midwest. Craft and Nashan, along with KEVIN WILLMANN of Farmhaus, BEN POREMBA of Elaia & Olio and JOSH GALLIANO of The Libertine were all named semifinalists for the award last month. Winners will be revealed at a gala in NYC in May. We'd like to thank all of the folks who represented St. Louis this year--well done!
It's official—Kakao Chocolate will be opening up location No. 3 in Clayton in the near future. Owner BRIAN PELLETIER has signed on for a space at 7700 Forsyth Blvd., just a few doors away from Pastaria and Niche. If all goes according to plan, look for a May opening.

Folks with a sweet tooth in West County now have easier access to award-winning cupcakes. The Cup’s newest shop is now open for business in Chesterfield at 1590 Clarkson Road, between Talbots and Chico’s. The Chesterfield location offers The Cup’s signature cupcakes, as well as sugar cookies, cakewiches, Kaldi’s coffee beverages and gelato. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Look for Seedz Cafe, a new vegetarian eatery, to open for business in early 2014 at 6344 South Rosebury in the DeMun neighborhood. The spot will feature an array of raw items, as well as smoothies and other plant-based specialties.

Local companies joined forces with jewelry designer jenny present to host Shop For A Cause, to benefit Gateway to Hope. Guests enjoyed Champagne, music and sweets while shopping the jenny present collection. Simcha’s Events, Bittersweet Artisan Truffles, Festive Atmospheres, The Rosewood Ensemble and Rachel Closson Photography sponsored the event.
Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant will open its first-ever St. Louis location next month in Town & Country. The restaurant, in Town and Country Crossing, will feature award-winning wines in a Napa-style tasting-room setting, as well as contemporary American fare. Opening is set for Dec. 12.

D'oh! Strange Donuts has opened at 2709 Sutton Ave. in Maplewood. Look for 12 fresh donut varieties each day, and late-night hours for you night owls with a donut craving. Meanwhile, Blind Tiger at Sutton Place is slated to open soon at 7376 Manchester Road, and will offer signature pizzas and a bar with an emphasis on whiskies.
Great Harvest Bread Company, which recently moved from Olivette, and La Cosecha Coffee Roasters have teamed up to provide customers with top-notch coffee and bread at 7360 Manchester Road in Maplewood. "We're sort of roommates" jokes La Cosecha co-owner JAMIE JESCHKE, since the two businesses are sharing the space and each one is operating as a separate entity. The idea, according to Jeschke, is for each company to do what it does best and complement the other. In addition to its coffee bar operation, La Cosecha also is roasting its coffee onsite.
Table is restaurant No. 2 from Cassy Vires and Josh Renbarger, proprietors of Home Wine Kitchen in Maplewood. While their new eatery differs from HWC in several ways, one thing remains the same: The food is fabulous.
BUTLER’S PANTRY treated 14-year-old Alexis to a baker’s dream day through the Make-A-Wish program. Alexis, who has been battling neuromyelitis optica, was greeted by a cheering crowd as she arrived by limousine. Not only was the teen able to spend the day in a professional kitchen, she was the star of a lunch for herself and her guests. Additional surprises to complete Alexis’ celebration included a designer cake, floral arrangements, an embroidered chef’s coat and professional kitchen supplies.
