WildSmoke, the smokehouse and bar that opened in Creve Coeur last January, has closed its doors. But the hiatus is a temporary one: The owners and executive team—the same group of folks behind EdgeWild Restaurant & Winery in Chesterfield—are planning to open a new concept in the WildSmoke location later this spring after some renovations and revamping. The new place will be called EdgeWild Bar & Grill, and it’ll be a spin-off of the restaurant, featuring a large central bar and focus on traditional bar food, appetizers, sandwiches and regional fare. Chef AARON BAGGETT, executive chef of EdgeWild Restaurant & Winery, will oversee the kitchens of both restaurants.

ONCE UPON A TIME...Sarah Keefe and her boyfriend, Pete Millar, packed up their belongings and their cat, Souvlaki, to move from Boston to St. Louis. Millar had gotten a job at Washington University; and Keefe, a freelance web developer, was happy to make the move. “We had this great big apartment with all this space (compared to Boston), so we started thinking about getting another cat,” Keefe says. “We were looking on PetFinder.com—not too seriously at first, but it got more serious. I was looking at pictures and I saw this one named Taffy. We were looking at senior pets because we wanted a cuddly pet, and Souvlaki is really energetic. Taffy was really beautiful and photogenic...and I said to Pete, When are we going to see Taffy? and it became a running joke because we kept waiting to go. Then one Saturday, he said, Let’s go visit Taffy.” And so they did.
The Missouri Wine and Grape Board has recognized Chef LOU ROOK III, exec chef at Annie Gunn’s in Chesterfield, as the 2014 Friend of the Industry for his support and dedication to the state’s wine industry. Chef ERIC BRENNER recently added his name to the list of local chefs who’ve found success on the small screen. Earlier this month, Brenner took the top prize of $18,000 on the Food Network show, Guy’s Grocery Games, hosted by GUY FIERI. Brenner currently is working to open Lascelles Tap & Grill in Granite City, where he’ll serve as executive chef and GM. Most recently, he was the exec chef and GM of Alumni St. Louis downtown.
