Community members celebrated the 2013 Hannukkah Celebration at Schnucks Ladue Crossing at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, with Hannukah music performed by the H.F. Epstein Hebrew Academy choir, storytelling and free gifts for children. Claudette Kirk, The DESCO Group property manager, also presented a check to Epstein headmaster Rabbi Avi Greene.
The love for donuts in the Lou continues unabated. The latest purveyor of these sweet treats to make the scene is the Vincent Van Doughnut food truck, which hit the streets this month. The mobile bake shop will be selling a variety of classic favorites, as well as custom creations out of Clyde, a vintage 1960 Ford Grumman Olson step van. Fine-dining stalwart Tony’s restaurant will have a fresh look come 2014. In January, the restaurant will undergo 10,000-square-feet of renovations, including new flooring and lighting, as well as expanding the bar and rearranging artwork and furniture. The Wine and the Cherry rooms also will be updated. SPACE Architecture + Design has signed on to do the renovations.
Seoul Taco has been one of the top food trucks in the St. Louis area for a while now. Last year, the owners opened a brick-and-mortar location in the Delmar Loop, which has proven to be every bit as popular.

Eventually, Ben learns that Barbra and her brother Johnny had been attacked by “the living dead,” and that Johnny is dead. Barbra ran to the house before slipping into shock. Ben abandoned his truck, which needs fuel, and is seeking shelter in the same house.

The Libertine has been making quite a splash with evening diners since opening its doors earlier this year. Now, chef JOSH GALLIANO is making his fine cuisine available to daytime customers, as well. The Libertine's new lunch menu, available Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m to 2 p.m., will feature such delicacies as ramen, Bahn Mi and Galliano Fried Chicken Salad, among others. They’re reporting brisk business at the newly christened Panorama restaurant at the Saint Louis Art Museum’s new East Building. We’re told that lunch reservations have been booked since the restaurant opened, and dinner (served only on Friday) also is a hot ticket. That’s great news for Bon Appetit Management Company and executive chef EDWARD FARROW, who officially rolled out their creative farm-to-fork menu late last month. Among the highlights: Local Roasted Heritage Pork with Summer Herbs and Mustard Stone-Ground Missouri Grits, Corn Flour Crusted Chicken Livers atop watermelon cubes and An Ode to Summer—a spectacular vegetable and fruit dish that changes daily based on what’s fresh that day.

This year is the 20th anniversary of Dining Out For Life, the national fundraiser for AIDS service organizations. This year's event on Thursday, April 25, involves a variety of local eateries that will donate 25 percent or more of your bill to Saint Louis Effort For AIDS (SLEFA). LN first reported months ago that Chef LOU ROOK of Annie Gunn's is releasing his first-ever cookbook, Rook Cooks; Simplicity At Its Finest. Well, it’s finally here! The tome is available at the restaurant, as well as such area stores as Left Bank Books and Kitchen Conservatory, for $35.
When Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East Coast this fall, the Veiled Prophet (VP) Organization was ready to step up in any way it could. Joining forces with another agency, the VP quickly gathered a group of members to assist in filling several trucks with much-needed cleaning supplies, food and clothing destined for the damaged areas. “One of the Veiled Prophet’s strengths always has been the ability to pull together and manage large groups of volunteers to help those who have a specific need,” explains VP spokesman Tom Cooke.

The new location of chef GERARD CRAFT's flagship restaurant, Niche, officially opened its doors to the public earlier this month. The restaurant is in the Centene Plaza Building in Clayton, next door to Craft's newest concept, Pastaria, which opened in September. Niche's former home on Sidney Street in Benton Park will now serve as Craft's test kitchen for culinary research and development.
Zia's on The Hill has been a popular eatery in that neighborhood since the mid-1980s, eventually venturing into retail sales with salad dressings and sauces, and most recently entering the food truck scene with its own rolling restaurant. The Zia's brick-and-mortar space, which takes up the corner of Wilson Avenue and Edwards Street, used to be an Italian grocery back in the day and still exudes an Old World charm.
