Is there a better American city for walking than New Orleans? And is there a better place to escape buzzy French Quarter activity than the Garden District?

Think back to the last time one of your family members was expecting a baby. Remember all of the beautiful gifts they got at their baby shower? It’s hard to imagine, but there are many moms-to-be in St. Louis who don’t have a support system to help them provide all of the clothing, toys and odds-and-ends that a baby needs in its first months of life.

Each year, it is an honor to style the ladies who are being recognized as Women of Achievement. These women gave great input into what fashions they love; and as you’ll see, the end result showcases each of their unique styles.

LN’s own design editor ALAN E. BRAINERD and his business partner, MARIA CLIFFORD, were among a privileged few who recently attended the highly anticipated auction of socialite LILLY PULITZER’s estate in West Palm Beach. Brainerd and Clifford, co-owners of Great Estates, were able to secure seats in the second row of the packed auction house for the sale of items from the fashion icon’s Palm Beach compound. Among Brainerd’s acquisitions for the day: three LILIAN MACKENDRICK watercolors and a charming, lidded cabbage box to add to his majolica collection. For her part, Clifford secured Chinese Chippendale cocktail and side tables for her living room.

We asked tarte makeup artist Erin Griffin how to make the transition. Griffin is a 10-year industry veteran who has done makeup for Miami Swim Week and the Oscar de la Renta show. She also has worked behind the scenes for the likes of Lady Antebellum and The Voice winner Casadee Pope.

Spring has sprung in the land of fashion, and one of my favorite trends for the new season are watercolor prints. Brush strokes of color in vibrant hues, these prints give an artsy look to your spring wardrobe. Pair them with white or classic denim, a lime neon clutch or bring a pop to your feet when wearing a solid dress...there’s nothing abstract about it!
When Don and Julie Marsh think about all the house- and yard-work they no longer have to worry about, they laugh. Don, a longtime journalist and a St. Louis Public Radio host, and Julie have two adult children, Bill and Julia. And while the couple doesn't have any pets of their own, they describe the area as pet-friendly—a convenient perk for times spent pet-sitting ‘grand-dogs.’ The couple moved to the Central West End some three years ago only to discover how convenient city living can be. “You can’t not go,” says Julie of all the nearby eateries. “It’s almost silly to make dinner!”
Story: Seven women, identified only by the singular color of their clothing, appear on stage in a ‘choreopoem’ that combines dance with poetry in 20 vignettes describing various experiences of African-American women.
Just because we’re in the thick of winter doesn't mean a romantic adventure—and fashion—is out of the question. And with so many fantastic options throughout St. Louis, there is something for everyone that will set the mood.
When Fathers' Support Center president and CEO Halbert Sullivan recounts a timeline of his life, he names just as many miracles as he does jail stints.
