At first glance, the original space reminded the June Roesslein team of an old-time ice-cream parlor, according to Smith, who, along with McGovern, designed what's being labeled the 'bonus room' in this year's Show House. The trim, chair rail and shutters had been painted bright red, and the walls were covered with red-and-tan-striped wallpaper. Café curtains had the unfortunate effect of preventing most of the available natural light from entering the small room. Additionally, the chair rail visually cut the walls in half and made the ceiling feel lower than its actual 8-foot height. On the upside, the room featured a fireplace with a pretty dark wood mantel, a vintage wood floor and attractive millwork that could be transformed into an architectural asset, albeit after many coats of paint.
With the arrival of fall, so come all the cravings of the season: squash of all varieties—including and especially pumpkin—apples, caramel (or apples dipped in caramel), and bacon and chocolate. (OK, those last two can apply to any season.)

The St. Louis Rams and food, beverage and retail partner Delaware North Companies Sportservice recently announced a multi-year contract extension that includes an expansion of services at the Dome. Look for some signature menu items from some of the area's best eateries to be available on game day, including: Sugarfire Smokehouse's Brisket Cheese Steak Sandwich and Smoked Sausage; Strange Donut's Chicken ‘n Waffle Sandwich and a selection of its signature donuts, including the Gooey Butter, Maple Bacon and Camp Fire; The BLT Sandwich and Chocolate-Covered Marshmallows from Crown Candy Kitchen; the Smoked Brisket Sandwich, Fried Oyster Po' Boy Sandwich and Crispy Fried Green Tomatoes from The Peacemaker Lobster & Crab Company; Gus' Pretzels famous Pretzel Bites and Bratwurst Pretzel Sandwich; and the Bandana's Pulled Pork Sandwich, Pulled Chicken Sandwich and BBQ Nachos. In addition, two local concepts are being added exclusively to the club level concessions: Vin De Set's Croque Monsieur Sandwich and Tarte Flambe, and the Butternut Squash Soup and Roasted Porchetta Sandwich from Eleven Eleven Mississippi.

So, The Hundred-Foot Journey came out last week to much critical acclaim. The movie is vibrant and sumptuous; and the director, Lasse Hallström, films food like it is the sexiest, most beautiful thing on the planet. Movies about food range from the exotic and sensual to the dark—and even disturbing. I have to admit, it was fun coming up with a list of the best films about food. To clarify, these films are actually about food. Diner is one of the funniest movies ever. Its title implies it is about food; however, it is not, and thus doesn't make the cut. So, here is my top 10 list of the best food films I've seen:

Local mobile donut purveyor Vincent Van Doughnut won big on the recent season premiere of Cooking Channel's Donut Wars earlier this month. Owner BRIAN MARSDEN and his pastry chef assistant, JAMIE HARDESTY, took home first-place honors and a cool $10,000. Their winning confections over three rounds were The Bellagio, featuring a caramel pastry creme filling with chocolate ganache glaze and hazelnut caramel crunch; The Venetian, with a ricotta pastry cream filling and a lemon glaze with pistachios and tarragon; and The Flamingo, a maraschino cherry cake donut with a maraschino cherry glaze and silver nonpareils. Congrats!
