A few days ago, I was on the receiving end of well-wishing and treats from my editorial staff. The reason? Boss' Day. I must admit, I was a bit embarrassed by the attention. Up until that point, the cynic in me always believed that Oct. 16, the designated day to celebrate your workplace superiors, was just another one of those manufactured card-company holidays. Spirits fans, it's that time of year again: The third Whiskey In The Winter event will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Hyatt St. Louis At The Arch downtown. Hendel's Market Cafe, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, is housed in a former grocery and general store that was founded in 1873. The building was transformed into a restaurant in 1994, and it retains all of that rustic charm.
The St. Louis Association of REALTORS recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its REALTORS Housing Assistance Fund. The Fund has awarded more than $750,000 in grants to local charities that work to end homelessness and provide transitional housing.

But Project COPE is changing those statistics—and changing lives. What reminds you of home? To the many St. Louisans transplanted across the country and around the world, one top yearning I hear about the most is for the food. Whether it be St. Louis-style pizza, toasted ravioli, gooey butter cake or Ted Drewes, there is nothing that relives the memory of home like its signature fare. Fortunately for us here, the taste of home is just a farmers market or grocery store away.
When you think of the hybrid genre of family dramedy, a lot of poignant, funny movies come to mind like Terms of Endearment (poignant) and The Royal Tennenbaums (funny); but either way, it's clear the awkward family reunion is rife with potential. Here, sadly, most of that potential remains untapped.
