The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis is giving guests something to celebrate: The award-winning hotel will unveil the stunning new makeover of its ballroom this fall. And a new holiday party package will allow local groups and businesses to be among the first to experience the elegantly redesigned entertainment space.
When founding the original 18|8 Fine Men’s Salon in Southern California a decade ago, the owners looked to an unusual source for the business’ name. “Harry Brearley was the inventor who figured out that the addition of 18-percent chrome and 8-percent nickel to steel eliminated rust, and allowed for a better-looking and better-performing product: stainless steel,” says Joe Bryan, owner of the newly opened 18|8 Fine Men’s Salon in Creve Coeur. It was those proportions that inspired the name 18|8. “The salon strives to transform its clientele to look and perform their best. A man who looks better and feels better about himself performs better.”

Fans of fine food and the works of The Bard will be pleased to find out that Bixby’s, located on the second floor of the Missouri History Museum, is partnering with Shakespeare Festival St. Louis for this year’s productions of Henry IV and Henry V. Bixby’s will host an intimate and elegant communal dining experience for five nights throughout the run of the show. Guests can make reservations to dine at a community table, under the stars, and enjoy a lavish full-course meal, focused on dining with local influence. This experience is limited to 40 guests per night. Tickets are $50 and include a reserved seat for the show; dinners begin at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at sfstl.com.
Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis will be kicking off its Unsung Heroes Dinner Series on Monday, June 23, at 6 p.m. The dinner will feature six of St. Louis’ finest sous chefs, underutilized parts of a hog and products from local farmers. Participating sous chefs include SHIMON DIAMOND of Cielo Restaurant & Bar, JUSTIN MCMILLEN of Sidney Street Café, RYAN MCDONALD of Juniper, JOSH POLETTI of The Libertine, ALEX FELDMEIER of Brasserie, and SUMMER WRIGHT of Floreat Bakery. The opening cocktail reception will feature Cielo’s Four Roses Bourbon and a variety of local brews, and the dinner will incorporate plenty of fresh products from Jones Heritage and Such and Such Farm. After a bit of a search, Central Table Food Hall in the CWE finally has a new executive chef: Darnell Devine. A CIA grad, Devine most recently was at the Everglades Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. He replaces chef Nick Martinkovic, who left earlier this year to become exec chef at Blood & Sand.
On a recent sunny spring afternoon at Parc Provence, a resident was helping arrange flowers from the greenhouse when she had an idea: She would make a beautiful bouquet for her daughter’s visit. Chef John Perkins has been making waves in the St. Louis culinary scene for a while with his Entre Underground pop-up dinner events and his catering prowess. Then he took a space in the historic Gaslight Square and revamped it for private events and also used it as home base for a series of month-long specialty restaurant concepts he put together. Late last year, he decided to forgo the monthly experiments and use the space to house an ongoing restaurant based on one of them, a successful Southern-influenced event. He called the new eatery Juniper; and it's a cozy, comforting platform for Perkins' unique takes on down-home specialties.

So, with all the Oscar hopefuls out, as well as some pretty decent mainstream movies, a big box-office opening went largely unnoticed: Well, largely unnoticed by the public, not the critics. The Legend of Hercules had high hopes the young male demographic would turn out in droves to see the mythological hero on the big screen—and even a few female fans of Twilight’s Kellan Lutz, who plays the title role. Hopes were dashed last weekend as the only thing legendary about the movie was its flop.

The Cup’s newest shop is now open for business in Chesterfield at 1590 Clarkson Road, between Talbots and Chico’s. The Chesterfield location offers The Cup’s signature cupcakes, as well as sugar cookies, cakewiches, Kaldi’s coffee beverages and gelato.
