Oceano Bistro in Chesterfield is going through some more changes. It's been announced that the restaurant has been purchased by an investor group and will be reopening on Friday, May 9, as Bishop's Post. The moniker is a combo of the names of managing partner BEN BISHOP and Chesterfield pioneer Justus Post, who once owned the land the eatery sits on. Chef DAVE ROOK, who recently took over the Oceano kitchen, will remain in the post of executive chef. The new menu is described as being classic, traditional fare. The Clayton Oceano Bistro was not affected by the sale and will remain as-is.
The folks at The Libertine are branching out into the world of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). The popular Clayton eatery is now offering subscriptions to its new CSA, which will include a bag of locally produced food each week for pick-up, as well as house-made delights from their kitchen, courtesy of chef JOSH GALLIANO. There are several levels and types of subscriptions to choose from, including omnivorous, paleo, vegetarian and vegan options. It's been announced that Chef GIAN NICOLA COLUCCI has been tapped to replace Chef FABRIZIO SCHENARDI as executive chef at Cielo and the Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis. A native of Turin, Italy, Colucci most recently served as executive chef at Starwood Hotel & Resort Danieli in Venice. He's expected to take the reins later this month. Benvenuto, Signore!
During the third annual kickoff of their home run pledge program, Homers for Health, St. Louis Cardinals Matt Holliday and Allen Craig were interrupted by two teammates making an announcement of their own: Jason Motte and Adam Wainwright announced the launch of K’s for Kids, a new twist on the charitable program. This season, fans will have the chance to pledge for every home run hit by a Cardinal hitter, or every strikeout thrown by a Cardinal pitcher. Homers for Health has raised more than $1 million. Huge congratulations to chefs GERARD CRAFT and KEVIN NASHAN, who have both been chosen as finalists for the James Beard Foundation Awards Best Chef: Midwest. Craft and Nashan, along with KEVIN WILLMANN of Farmhaus, BEN POREMBA of Elaia & Olio and JOSH GALLIANO of The Libertine were all named semifinalists for the award last month. St. Louis-area chefs and restaurateurs are once again banding together to support the next wave of restoration and maintenance of Forest Park through Restaurants for Restoration. Starting Tuesday, April 1, select area restaurants will offer their patrons the opportunity to support Forest Park by purchasing designated wine selections on their wine lists. A portion of these sales will be donated to Forest Park Forever. The Restaurants for Restoration initiative was first launched in 2001 as a joint effort by Major Brands Premium Beverage Distributors and its supplier partners to build community awareness and raise funds for the major renovations the park has undergone in the past decade. BRAINERD and his business partner, MARIA CLIFFORD, were among a privileged few who recently attended the highly anticipated auction of socialite LILLY PULITZER’s estate in West Palm Beach. Brainerd and Clifford, co-owners of Great Estates, were able to secure seats in the second row of the packed auction house for the sale of items from the fashion icon’s Palm Beach compound. Among Brainerd’s acquisitions for the day: three LILIAN MACKENDRICK watercolors and a charming, lidded cabbage box to add to his majolica collection. For her part, Clifford secured Chinese Chippendale cocktail and side tables for her living room.

Chefs GERARD CRAFT (Niche); KEVIN WILLMANN (Farmhaus); KEVIN NASHAN (Sidney Street Cafe); JOSH GALLIANO (The Libertine); and BEN POREMBA (Elaia) all are in the running for the title of Best Chef: Midwest. Chef RICK LEWIS of Quincy Street Bistro has been tapped as a contender for Rising Star Chef of the Year, and Taste in the CWE has been nominated for Outstanding Bar Program. Finalists for the awards will be announced on March 18, in Chicago, and the winners will be revealed in NYC in May. It had to be…Harry Connick Jr! The popular crooner has been announced as the headliner for this year’s Dinner with the Stars to benefit Variety the Children's Charity. The event takes place Saturday, May 3, at Peabody Opera House.
Nadoz Bakery & Café bowed its newest location at the Taubman Prestige Outlets in Chesterfield earlier this month. The new spot features specialty coffee and espresso, all-day breakfast, homemade soups and salads, sandwiches and desserts, along with a Burger Bar and the new Nadoz Squeeze Juice Bar, offering raw juice from fresh fruits and vegetables.
Local teens helped spread the love this Valentine’s Day by sending area seniors more than 1,000 Valentines as part of Love Letters, a program sponsored by Mid-East Area Agency on Aging (MEAAA), DoSomething.org, Mentor Up and the Meals on Wheels Association of America. More than 68,000 teens across the country contributed cards for almost 100,000 seniors. The cards were included in meal deliveries from Meals on Wheels volunteers. Pictured: Katie Fenton
