Dorothy Hunter

Dorothy Hunter celebrated her 110th birthday on Monday, July 31.

Meramec Bluffs Senior Living resident Dorothy Hunter celebrated her birthday yesterday, July 31.

But it wasn't just any birthday — it was her 110th birthday.

Hunter is believed to be among the oldest residents in the St. Louis area. She grew up in the Tower Grove South region of the city, and was an elementary school teacher in Kirkwood for many years. After her time as a teacher, Hunter spent many years volunteering at places like St. Luke's Hospital.

At her independent living apartment, Hunter enjoys listening to music and reading mystery novels. She credits her longevity to a life lived in moderation: never indulging in more food, more clothing or spending than necessary.
