Following an engagement at Busch Stadium, a local couple welcomed guests to their wedding weekend with a Cardinals’ galvanized pail of game-day treats at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark Hotel.

The Kirkwood-based wedding and proposal planning team of Kate & Company helped the Cardinal-loving bride and groom bring their baseball-themed big day to life. At the rehearsal dinner, numbered baseballs from Cardinals’ practices adorned tables and each member of the wedding party wore a team T-shirt with their role labeled on the back. Even Kate & Company owner and lead coordinator Katie Fogerty was outfitted with a jersey that read ‘Coach.’

From weddings, engagements and birthday parties to bridal and baby showers, Kate & Company strives to showcase the culture, dynamic and personality of each couple in their event. “We really get to know a couple and incorporate their loves into their big day,” notes Fogerty, a wedding planner of five years. “We don't mass-produce weddings. Each event is as unique as the couple.” The planning team holds a free consultation, as well as multiple follow-up meetings with clients, learning more about them through questions such as Where do you enjoy going on vacation?, What was she wearing when you first saw her?, and How did he propose? “We can learn the smallest things about a couple in meetings and run with them in the real wedding.” For example, a couple, who are each biologists, has an environmentally green wedding set for summer, from using bamboo invitations to encouraging guests to recycle. Another couple promoted local companies through a signature St. Louis wedding welcome basket, complete with Bissinger’s chocolate, Fitz’s root beer and gooey butter cake. And a local military couple has chosen navy, dark red, ivory and silver for their fall wedding colors, while their guest favors will be donations to help families with deployed soldiers.

Kate & Company, which officially launched in June last year, offers everything from partial and full event planning to unlimited packages. For clients who prefer to do the event prep work, Kate’s team can come in the last 90 days of the process to assist with final details, such as creating a timeline and following up with vendors. With full planning, the company is involved in every aspect of the big day. And the unlimited package takes this a step further, offering unlimited planning and design hours. “We spend a lot of time networking with vendors, from photographers and bands to florists. Before we recommend a vendor to a client, we go through an extensive pre-screening process to ensure the vendor is on time, acts in a professional manner, brings exactly what is ordered, and makes sure the clients are supported and stress-free on the wedding day.” Vendor recommendations vary among clients, she notes. “We take into consideration the budget and design aspects, and put together the best team for them.” And instead of taking kickbacks from recommended vendors, Kate & Company passes along savings to the client, such as a 10 percent discount on flowers.

Another unique aspect of Kate & Company is the proposal-planning side of the business. The team can put the soon-to-be groom’s idea in motion, or advise him on a proposal incorporating her favorite things or anything that is unique to them as a couple. “To be involved in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is really meaningful to our entire team,” Fogerty says. Since many couples become engaged between November and February, Fogerty says her team networks in the community and on social media to offer their services to future grooms. The business is providing three potential new grooms the opportunity for free photos or video if they have Kate & Company help design their perfect proposal, she adds.

As a member of a close-knit, entrepreneurial family, Fogerty says Kate & Company combines her lifelong passion for weddings and celebrating the love of families. “I still cry every time I see someone get married. To be part of their special day is something you can’t even put into words. I really think I have the best job in the whole world.”
