Jill Myrna Young and Mario Monty Menears are happy to announce their engagement.
The bride-to-be is the daughter of the late Dr. Rufus Young Jr. and the late Mrs. Inez Young-Creighton. She attended Lutheran North High School and earned a B.A. in fashion merchandising from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she became Mizzou’s first African-American homecoming queen. She is director of private brand apparel product development at Shopko in Green Bay, Wis. Jill’s three sons, Brandon, Blake and Brett Young-Fountain will walk her down the aisle.
The future groom is the son of Mr. Joseph Menears of St. Louis and the late Mrs. Mattie Swan-Menears. He graduated from Northwest High School, and recently retired as a detective from the St. Louis Police Department. His daughter, Keisha Menears-Wilson, will serve as ‘best woman.’
Jill and Mario met in third grade and quickly developed crushes on one another that lasted through high school. After Mario left to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force and Jill left for college, they lost touch. In 2009, Jill’s sister ran into Mario and gave him Jill’s number. Four months later, he proposed. Following an April wedding in St. Louis, they will reside in Green Bay.
