On the night they became engaged, Lindsey Decker and Nathan Voorhees weren’t just on top of the world, they were on top of Chicago. After proposing to Lindsey in November 2009 outside of the Shedd Aquarium, Nathan and his bride-to-be celebrated with dinner at the Signature Room on the 95th floor of the John Hancock Center. “It’s just amazing at night,” Lindsey says. “There’s floor-to-ceiling windows all around the restaurant, with incredible views of the city. It was so romantic!”

Lindsey and Nathan met when they were students at Pattonville High School. “Nathan was a senior and I was a junior when we started dating,” she explains. “We’d been together for seven years when we got engaged.” Although she knew a proposal would happen ‘eventually,’ Lindsay was still surprised. “We were sitting on a park bench, enjoying the view of the lake and Navy Pier, when Nathan asked me to marry him.” Even though their families were back in St. Louis and didn’t hear the news right away, it wasn’t a secret to anyone they encountered in Chicago. “We must have been glowing, because for the rest of the day people kept asking us Did you just get engaged? Maybe it’s because I kept staring at my ring!”

The wedding and reception were held at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild in Oak Knoll Park. “We wanted something small and very special, not just for us but for our guests,” Lindsey says. “The minute we saw it, we knew it was perfect.”

And even though they’ve only been home from their Emerald Bay honeymoon for a few weeks, the newlyweds are looking forward to their next big adventure. “In January 2012, we will celebrate 10 years together, and we’re thinking Italy or maybe Paris would be perfect.” LN

    Fall is  perhaps the most vibrant season for an outdoor wedding in Missouri. ‘Antique’ green hydrangeas or garden roses can be mixed with Dutch varietals like red kale, anemones or euphorbia, and combined with a surprise like Missouri grape vines, grapes or apples.  Think Napa Valley!

    Consider choosing light, refreshing flavors such as lemon or raspberry. Guests are often excited to see something other than vanilla at a wedding! Decorate your dessert with small, delicate details, rather than heavy, ornate designs.
