Their Story

The old proverb, All work and no play make Jack a dull boy resonates with Diana Kimes and James Cole. The couple met through work in 2005 but didn’t start dating until four years later. “We went on a road trip together, and I had such a great time with her that I just had to ask her out!” recalls Jim. Six to eight hours a day in a car for five days made Diana realize that they had a special connection. “Not once did we argue or lack for things to talk about,” she says.

The couple became engaged on New Years Eve 2010. Both dressed to the nines, they were preparing to leave their hotel room at the Hyatt in downtown when Jim invited Diana to share the view of the Arch. He popped the question as the song Marry Me, by Train played in the background. “I was very emotional—my hands were shaking and I could barely get the word ‘yes’ out without starting to cry,” recalls Diana.

They were joined by family and friends on Nov. 12 when they were married at The Chase Park Plaza in a ceremony officiated by The Hon. Thomas Frawley. The bride wore an antique comb in her hair that belonged to her grandmother and an bracelet that was given to her mother the day she was born on her ankle. “I remember how we couldn’t take our eyes off of each other or stop smiling from the moment he first saw me. We must have looked like a couple of lovestruck teenagers! she says. A reception followed in the Starlight Room. Guests were greeted with a string trio, (The Rosewood Ensemble) and cocktail hour. Favors included a donation card benefiting Cortland County Hospice in New York in honor of the groom’s late mother.

The newlyweds honeymooned in Sedona, Ariz. where they took an early morning hike each day. “It was absolutely breathtaking! We’re already planning a trip back for our one-year anniversary! exclaims Diana. They reside in St. Louis.
