Seeing stars…A hometown crowd applauded JENNA FISCHER (Nerinx ’91) as she accepted this year’s Cinema St. Louis Award, honoring her contributions to the art of film. Fischer was in town to promote her latest movie with CHRIS O’DONNELL, A Little Help, which premiered at the 19th annual St. Louis International Film Festival.

Actress and humanitarian MIA FARROW recently delivered a lecture on human rights and participated in a human trafficking seminar at Wash ington University. Her talk was attended by a group of social work and law students led by professor KAREN TOKARZ, one of several W.U. faculty members involved in a yearlong initiative that addresses the global problems of trafficking. Farrow is deeply involved with humanitarian efforts in several African countries.

EARTHDANCE, an educational farm in Ferguson, is now accepting applications for its 2011 organic farming apprenticeships. The program offers St. Louisans the opportunity to grow food organically on a real working farm. Application deadline is Dec. 10. MARIAN MIDDLE SCHOOL is the recipient of a $500,000 donation—the largest annual gift in its 11-year history! Donors are longtime supporters BRUCE and JANE ROBERT, who say that their commitment to advancing education was inspired by watching their son, PATRICK, dedicate his life to helping others.

A BOB CASSILLY-designed turtle now calls REED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’s sculpture garden home. Donated by KYRLE and ANN BOLDT, the sculpture was selected as a memorial to Kyrle’s father, KYRLE ‘BUDDY’ BOLDT JR., who passed away in 2008. The school has named the turtle ‘Buddy’ in his honor.

Nationally renowned floral designer DALE ROHMAN is setting up shop in St. Charles, officially opening The Sec ond-Hand Rose boutique in New Town this weekend. Roh man, who once co-owned George Waldbart Florist in Ladue, is the author of Fantastic Wreaths with Dale Rohman and has appeared on the TODAY Show, CNN and HGTV.

CENTRAL WEST END merchants are spreading holiday cheer with the 2010 CWE Window Walk, in which the public is encouraged to vote for their favorite window display. The fun begins Dec. 4 with a family street event throughout the shopping district. Voting ends Dec. 18, but window displays will stay up during the holidays.

University City’s DELMAR @ 170 BUSINESS DISTRICT is now a reality. The specially designated district represents more than 100 businesses along Delmar Boulevard, bordered by Brentmoor Place to the west and Old Bonhomme Road to the east.
