This year’s recipients include: THE LEU KEMIA AND LYMPHOMA SOCIETY, MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION, AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, HOPE CENTER FOR NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS and JDRF.

Into thin air…An important medical study published in a recent issue of the New England Journal of Medicine includes data about two SAINT LOUIS SCIENCE CENTER VIPs, president DOUG KING and senior VP BRAD NUCCIO. They and several Science Center members climbed to the base camp of Mount Everest, where the amount of oxygen in their blood was measured for the study. Reaserchers are analyzing how climbers adapt to this oxygen change, hoping the results could eventually help critical care doctors re-evaluate treatment strategies in patients with low levels of oxygen, including those with cystic fibrosis, emphysema and septic shock.

Kudos to the students of SAINT JOSEPH’S ACADEMY, who recently raised $56,000 for charity during their annual Mission Week Fund-raising Campaign. The week kicked off with a community garage sale followed by five days of service work and fund-raisers to benefit the SISTERS OF ST. JOSEPH OF CARONDELET’S missions in Peru and Uganda.
