Longtime restaurateur KIM TUCCI, founder of The Pasta House Co., is among those being honored by PARAQUAD at its upcoming AccessibleSTL Shine the Light Awards for his work to promote a fully accessible community for people with disabilities. Tucci, the recipient of the organization’s Legacy of Excellence award, will be joined by other honorees, including the CITY OF CLAYTONMERCYMONSANTOSANSONE GROUP and WEBSTER UNIVERSITY. The Nov. 14 event will be held at The Chase Park Plaza.

A little mouse told us to remind you about our upcoming HALLOWEEN PHOTO GALLERY: Now through Monday, Oct. 14, LN is accepting photos from last year’s trick-or-treating fun to be featured in our Oct. 25 issue. Can you feel it in the air? The holiday season begins in just a few weeks, and they’re getting ready at PEABODY OPERA HOUSE, where the MOSCOW BALLET will return Nov. 8 with The Great Russian Nutcracker. Once again, the company, along with Dance Project Saint Louis, is holding a casting call for local children. (Last year’s show featured 130 area youngsters in the cast). In addition, those selected to perform at the Peabody also will have the opportunity to appear in Macy’s Festival of Lights at Keiner Plaza Nov. 22. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) is inducting television innovator TED KOPLAR into its Gold Circle for his outstanding service in the industry. The honor celebrates Koplar’s more than 50 years of impact in the industry, including growing KPLR-TV to become one of the country’s top independent stations. The award will be presented during the 37th annual St. Louis Emmy Awards Oct. 5 at the Renaissance Grand Hotel downtown.

The Missouri River is the subject of a new book that captures the river valley’s lush scenery and rich history, and features essays from the likes of GOV. JAY NIXON, conservationist PETER RAVEN, civic leader WILLIAM DANFORTH and environmentalist ADOLPHUS BUSCH IV. The pages of Missouri River Country are filled with more than 230 photographs and illustrations, including original artwork from local artist BRYAN HAYNES. The book can be found at Missouri Botanical Garden, The Smokehouse Market and Bowood Farms, with proceeds to benefit Missouri conservation causes.

Joy Luck Club novelist AMY TAN will be in St. Louis next month to promote her latest novel, The Valley of Amazement. Tan will participate in an onstage interview with St. Louis Public Radio’s DON MARSH, followed by an audience Q&A session and book-signing. Her Nov. 16 appearance at St. Louis County Library headquarters begins at 7 p.m. Ticket packages, which include a copy of the new book, are available at the library or through slcl.org.

The ultimate shop-for-a-good-cause experience is just around the corner: The 10-day GLENNON CARD event begins Oct. 25 and runs through Nov. 3. The card, available for $50 each, offers a 20-percent discount on regularly priced merchandise at 285 stores, salons and restaurants across St. Louis. One-hundred percent of card sales benefit patients at SSM CARDINAL GLENNON. Last year’s campaign raised more than $147,000, allowing the hospital to purchase live-saving heart and lung monitoring equipment, and enhance treatment programs for children with autism spectrum disorders. Congratulations to KIT HEFFERN and ELLEARD HEFFERN FINE JEWELERS on the company’s 100th anniversary! Elleard Heffern was founded in 1913, when Heffern’s grandfather, Samuel, opened a store downtown. Kit Heffern, who joined the family business more than 40 years ago, oversees the store at its current Clayton location.
