One of the most anticipated events of the fall season is coming soon: The third annual LADUE NEWS SHOW HOUSE opens to the public next month. This year’s Show House, 23 Lenox Place in the Central West End, is filled with details of Old World craftsmanship and touches of Gilded Age elegance. Built in 1904, the historically significant home most recently belonged to the late MRS. RACHEL FITCH, who was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, DR. COY FITCH. Many of St. Louis’ top designers are once again participating, lending their time and talent to showcase their craft.

A special Preview Party will be held Thursday, Oct. 3, from 6 to 9 p.m., with live music and house tours. The Ladue News Show House opens Saturday, Oct. 5, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 20. The home is closed to the public on Mondays. For tickets to the Preview Party ($75) or general admission ($20 in advance/$25 at the door), call Megan Langford at 269-8809. Proceeds from the Show House benefit local charities.

A new work of art has been installed in Shaw Park’s Century Garden in honor of the CITY OF CLAYTON’s 100th anniversary. The 3,500-pound, 19-foot Molecular Bloom with Single Flower, by renowned sculptor JAMES SURLS, was created specifically to be a permanent addition to the city’s public art collection. It now occupies the space where the Venus Victorious sculpture was on display (the Renoir piece had been on loan from the Saint Louis Art Museum).

Heads up! If you plan to see the ‘Greatest Show on Earth’ next month at Scottrade Center, keep your eye out for the human cannonball: 20-year-old St. Louisan ELLIANA GRACE, currently the youngest female cannonball in the world, will perform in Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Built to Amaze! Elliana, the daughter of Circus Harmony founder JESSICA HENTOFF, made her circus debut at just 2 weeks old, when she starred as ‘The Baby’ in a 1992 Circus Flora production. Prior to joining Ringling Bros., Elliana trained for a semester at Ecole de Cirque de Quebec in Canada before returning to the U.S. to coach and teach a variety of classes at Circus Harmony. Ringling Bros. will be in town Oct. 17 to 20 for eight performances.

LN Cooks columnist Chef JOHN JOHNSON of River City Casino is among a select group of culinary masters participating in this year’s Chefs in a Garden fundraiser for GATEWAY GREENING. He’ll be joined by BEN POREMBA of Elaia + Olio, PATRICK CONNOLLY of Basso, RICHARD NIX of Piccione Pastry, and IVY MAGRUDER of Vin de Set, among others, in creating dishes from local gardens and farms to be sampled by event attendees. The Sunday, Sept. 8, event will be held at Palladium Saint Louis. For tickets, visit gatewaygreening.org.

Multiple Tony Award-winner and Broadway icon HARVEY FIERSTEIN will be the keynote speaker for this year’s ST. LOUIS JEWISH BOOK FESTIVAL. The actor’s Nov. 3 appearance at the JCC in Creve Coeur will kick-off the two-week festival, which is celebrating its 35th year. Series and Series Plus tickets for the festival are on sale now, call 442-3299 or visit stljewishbookfestival.org.

Twitter co-founder and Square topper JACK DORSEY recently returned to his native St. Louis to facilitate a much-needed conversation about growing the region into a business-friendly community. Local businesses and residents were on hand to attend Square’s Let’s Talk event at the Casa Loma Ballroom. Dorsey served as moderator for a panel that included Sump Coffee's SCOTT CAREY and Whisk Bakeshop's PETE WISSINGER, among others. The St. Louis event is the first stop on Dorsey’s tour that also will take him to Detroit, Minneapolis, Toronto, New Orleans and the Bronx.
