St. Louis magician MICHAEL BARRON has some exciting things up his sleeve: He’s cleared the preliminary round of America’s Got Talent, and will perform live in front of celebrity judges HOWIE MANDEL, SHARON OSBOURNE and PIERS MORGAN. Taping began in Minne apolis last week, and if Barron makes it, he’ll advance to Las Vegas and then Hollywood. Barron, who started performing at 5 years old, is the International Brother hood of Magicians’ World Championship Winner, and has appeared on national and international television. We applaud BARNES-JEWISH HOSPITAL for ranking No. 1 in a new U.S. News & World Report list of the top 15 St. Louis area hospitals. Rounding out the top five are: Saint Louis Uni versity Hospital, Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Christian Hospital and SSM DePaul Health Center. According to U.S. News, the rankings were determined by a hospital’s number of nationally ranked specialties, and then by the number of other specialties in which it was among the top 25 percent nationally. The list ranks Barnes-Jewish as eighth best hospital in the nation.

Former JFK Secret Service agent GERALD BLAINE will be in town April 21 to discuss and sign copies of his new book, The Kennedy Detail: JFK’s Secret Service Agents Break Their Silence. Blaine will appear with former agent CLINT HILL, who was in the presidential motorcade during John F. Kennedy’s assassination and famously climbed onto the back of the car during the shooting. Hill wrote the forward to The Kennedy Detail. The book is being touted as the first time that members of the Kennedy Secret Service detail reveal the inside story of that fateful day in November 1963.
St. Patrick Center has a new leader: TOM ETLING is the organization’s new CEO effective April 11. Etling comes from Metro, where he served as marketing VP. He also has prior experience with St. Patrick Center as president of the development board. Etling replaces DAN BUCK, who left to become executive director of Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation.
