He’s fought the mob, built a field of dreams and danced with wolves…now, Academy Award-winner KEVIN COSTNER will take on another role when he comes to St. Louis next month: Costner and his band, Modern West, have been announced as the musical headliner for the 2012 Bob Costas Benefit for Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. We now know who will compete for LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY’s 2012 Man & Woman of the Year—all in an effort to raise money for cancer research and patient services. The candidates are: JOSHUA BAKER of US Foods, LIZ HUGHES of Robert Half International, TIM RENAUD of U.S. Cellular, SCOTT SCHULTE of Lockton Companies and MARY PILLSBURY WAINWRIGHT of Mary Pillsbury Jewelry. Candidates are responsible for raising funds during a 10-week period, with each dollar raised counting as one ‘vote.’ The male and female candidates with the most ‘votes’ will be honored at an April 26 event at The Ritz-Carlton.
A new SAINT LOUIS ZOO baby Coquerel’s sifaka, an endangered lemur species from Madagascar, is now available for viewing. The yet-unnamed female baby was born at the primate house Jan. 16. For about a month, the baby held onto her mother’s belly, but has now ‘graduated’ to riding on her back. The newborn, along with her mother, father and 1-year-old sister, can be viewed indoors in the Primate House every day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Organizers of CRAFT ALLIANCE’s ARTrageous Baubles Ball have announced that longtime arts supporters CATHY BARANCIK and STEVE NOVIK will be honored at the April 13 event at Palladium Saint Louis. A kick-off cocktail reception was held recently at the home of PAT WHITAKER and DICK MILES in advance of next month’s event that will combine art, jewelry, fashion and music and include a guest appearance by Fashion Institute of Technology museum director VALERIE STEELE.
Nominations are now open for ARTS AND EDUCATION COUNCIL’s 2012 St. Louis Arts Awards, which honor exceptional individuals and companies that have enriched the local arts and cultural community.
