George alert! The hunk has left town, but we can still enjoy our Clooney  memories, right? Every Sunday while he was filming in St. Louis, the Hollywood heartthrob played a friendly game of pick-up basketball at SLU’s Chaifetz Arena. Joining him each week were Lodging Hospitality Management CEO BOB O’LOUGHLIN, STEVE O’LOUGH LIN, TOM LYONS and DECLAN O’NEILL. The games began after Clooney and Bob O’Loughlin became friends during filming, much of which was done at LHM’s Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark and Hilton St. Louis at the Airport. O’Loughlin, a member of SLU’s board of trustees, arranged the strictly confidential gym time for Clooney with the University.

Bravo! FOX ASSOCIATES has announced the 2009-2010 U.S. Bank Broadway Series, which includes performances of In the Heights (winner of the 2008 Tony Award for ‘Best Musical’), Young Frankenstein, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, Grease, Osage County, Wicked, Little House on the Prairie the Musical, Legally Blonde, Chicago, The Color Purple, Mamma Mia! and Avenue Q.

Congrats to TAMMY POPP, algebra and calculus teacher at OAKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL, who was awarded the 2009 Saint Louis Science Center/Carol B. and Jerome T. Loeb Prize  for Excellence in Teaching Science and Mathematics.

In other school news, FONTBONNE UNIVERSITY student MELANIE PATICOFF, a deaf education major, won first place in the American Speech-Language Hearing Association’s ‘Make Your Own Video Contest.’ Paticoff, along with her sister DANI and cousin JULIE ROSENTHAL, submitted a video titled, ‘That’s Just the Way We Hear.’ The video submissions were uploaded to YouTube and judged on originality and creativity, aesthetic appeal and content. Dani and  Julie are affected by hearing loss, and in the video they share their experiences through a song written by Paticoff.

Feeling the itch to redecorate? CHARACTER PLUS, EDGEWOOD CHILDREN’S CENTER, the MISSOURI BOTANICAL GARDEN and THE NATIONAL CHILDREN’S CANCER SOCIETY have teamed up with DESIGN IDEAS to host a special, limited time outlet sale through May 25. Set up in the old Schnucks building at Highway 141 and Big Bend Boulevard, the ‘store’ features innovative and fashionable home and office accessories at a fraction of retail price. A portion of the proceeds will be given to each charity. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

PAUL JAMES, host of HGTV’s ‘Gardening By The Yard,’ made an appearance at the MISSOURI BOTANICAL GARDEN to promote the recent National Public Gardens Day.

Big news from SLU! ANHEUSER-BUSCH FOUNDATION has presented the university with a  $3 million gift, its largest individual gift to SLU in the corporation’s history. The funds will be used to help offset the cost of a $35 million expansion to SLU’s School of Law.

St. Louis’ newest premier hotel, the 910-room HYATT REGENCY ST. LOUIS RIVERFRONT, is near completion. The $65 million transformation includes new guest rooms and meeting spaces, which are complete and open for business, as are a new Starbucks, fitness center, and the St. Louis Brewhouse Historical Sports Bar. Additional amenities, including a Ruth Chris’ Steakhouse, Red Kitchen and Bar, and the Gateway Arch Terrace, are due for completion prior to the Major League Baseball All Star game in July.

Best wishes to Ballwin resident LAUREN PICKARD, who recently departed for Nicaragua to begin pre-service training as an agricultural and rural development PEACE CORPS volunteer. She is the daughter of Bob and Cathy Pickard and a graduate of John Burroughs High School and Temple University, where she earned a master’s degree in geography. Pickard joins 127 Missouri residents currently serving in the Peace Corps.

Happy birthday to KENNELWOOD VILLAGE, which turns 35 this year! Opened in 1974 by DONALD DANFORTH JR., the company’s first professionally run, full-service boarding, grooming and training pet facility was located at Page and Lindbergh boulevards. Today there are six locations.
