Renowned American artist HARRISON HOWARD will be in St. Louis next week to debut a handpicked selection of his artwork. Best known locally for his original artwork on the cover of St. Louis Seasons magazine and next month’s upcoming Ladue News Elegant Living publication, Howard has spent most of his professional career devoted to mural work in private homes. His April 28 appearance at Sallie Home (9821 Clayton Road in Ladue) is from 5 to 8 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
The St. Louis premiere of the 2010 Tony Award-winning musical Memphis will be part of the 2011-2012 U.S. Bank Broadway Series at the Fox Theatre. Also making their debut: The Addams Family, Christmas with the Rat Pack—Live at the Sands, and Bring It On: The Musical. La Cage Aux Folles and West Side Story round out the upcoming season, which begins Sept. 27 with The Addams Family.
Our town’s ERIC GREITENS has kicked off a national tour to promote his book, The Heart and the Fist: The Education of a Humanitarian, the Making of a Navy SEAL. In it, Greitens, the founder of The Mission Continues and one of this year’s LN’s Most Dynamic People, talks about his experiences with refugees in Bosnia and Crotia and genocide survivors in Rwanda to leading the Navy SEALs in Iraq.
Acclaimed Water for Elephants author SARA GRUEN is coming to St. Louis to discuss and sign copies of her latest book, Ape House. Gruen’s May 2 appearance at St. Louis County Library headquarters comes on the heels of this weekend’s release of Water for Elephants the movie, starring REESE WITHERSPOON and ROBERT PATTINSON.
On May 4, international bestseller NATHANIEL PHILBRICK also will appear at County Library headquarters to discuss The Last Stand: Custer, Sitting Bull, and the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Philbrick won the National Book Award for In the Heart of the Sea and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for Mayflower.
ST. LOUIS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL is the recipient of more than $5 million from the estate of EDITH WOLFF. The gift, establishing the Alan and Edith Wolff Endowment Fund, represents the largest charitable bequest in the hospital’s history.
