Musically inclined…Two REED ELEMENTARY students are among the winners in the fifth annual COMP (Creating Original Music Project) contest held across Missouri. JONATHAN PADGETT and JACK ROTH were chosen for their original instrumental piece, ‘JJ Jam,’ and performed the composition last weekend at the COMP Festival on the University of Missouri campus in Columbia. More than 100 entries were submitted this year, and Jonathan and Jack were among 31 students honored.

SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL ST. LOUIS is celebrating its 10th anniversary season with Hamlet, The Bard’s classic tale of loss, madness and revenge. The free performances in Forest Park have attracted more than a half million patrons since the event’s founding. Nightly shows (except Tuesdays and Saturday, June 5) begin May 26 and run through June 20.

ST. FRANCIS XAVIER COLLEGE CHURCH is marking a milestone this weekend: the 125th anniversary of the first Mass celebrated at the present location on Grand Avenue and Lindell Boulevard. The church has planned a series of events to commemorate the anniversary through October.

Eat, Drink, and…Play Ball! If you’re headed to BUSCH STADIUM anytime soon, be sure to check out some of CHEF JERAMIE MITCHELL’S new offerings at the concession stands and club areas. Mitchell has concocted what he hopes will be the next St. Louis classic: St. Louis BBQ Bacon Dog. Unveiled on Opening Day, the bacon-wrapped hotdog is served with baked beans, pickles, tobacco onions, pico de gallo and sweet St. Louis-style barbecue sauce. Also on the menu: Mama Toscano’s toasted ravioli, served throwback-style in a brown lunch bag and Cherokee Street Tacos using fresh-made tortillas from local taquerias.

Kudos to DR. JAY PEPOSE, one of only 10 surgeons worldwide to be honored by Bausch & Lomb for reaching a milestone in lens implantation. Pepose, medical director of Pepose Vision Institute and professor of clinical ophthalmology at Washington University School of Medicine, has implanted more than 1,000 Crystalens since the intraocular lens implant was introduced 10 years ago. Pepose was also honored for his contributions to understanding the optics of the accommodating lens design.

The new CBS hit show Undercover Boss recently featured JOEL MANBY, CEO/president of Hersch-end Family Entertainment, the company that runs Silver Dollar City and Showboat Branson Belle. The show’s March 28th episode had Manby working alongside employees and discovering how these ‘unsung heroes’ work their magic all season long.

Congratulations as well to Ladue resident DR. ARDAMAN NANDA of Midwest Cardiovascular Consultants. Nanda is one of the select recipients of this year’s prestigious Hind Rattan award, given to illustrious and influential persons of Indian descent handed out by the NRI Welfare Society of India.

If you find yourself at MACY’s West County this weekend, you might run into style guru and TLC star CLINTON KELLY. The host of the hit show What Not To Wear is making his way back to St. Louis to come to the aid of 12 style-challenged women. The ladies will get their big ‘reveal’ during a Saturday afternoon fashion show at the store.

Grammy Award-winning cellist and St. Louis native SARA SANT’AMBROGIO is lending her star power to Cellofest 2010. The founding member of EROICA TRIO will be the featured soloist joining 12 cellists from the SAINT LOUIS SYMPHONY YOUTH ORCHESTRA (SLSYO) during the May 11 performance at The Sheldon. Sant’Ambrogio, herself an SLSYO alum, also plans to give master classes to the young cellists while in town.
