Celebrated pianist JIM BRICKMAN will be in town next month to promote a new special for PBS. He’ll be broadcasting live from KETC/ Channel 9 on Sept. 8 to host Beautiful World with Jim Brickman, a show that features St. Louis native and American Idol finalist MELINDA DOOLITTLE, singer/songwriter JON SECADA, and Celtic Woman’s ORLA FALLON.

Actress HOLLY ROBINSON PEETE will be the featured guest at next month’s AUTISM SPEAKS Fall Fever Fashion Show at Plaza Frontenac. Peete, who has an autistic son, is an Autism Speaks board member and honorary chair of the event.

Back to school in style… GATEWAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL special education teacher ROBERDIA IRVING is the grand prize winner of a national makeover and fashion photo shoot contest from JONES NEW YORK IN THE CLASSROOM and MACY’s. Irving was whisked to New York City this week for the photo shoot, and was styled personally by TV fashion guru and author LLOYD BOSTON. Along with her makeover and new Jones New York wardrobe, Irving was sent home with a donation for classroom supplies and improvements from the non-profit, Adopt-A-Classroom.

You never know what will turn up at GOODWILL…An alert employee sorting through boxes in the warehouse recently uncovered a rare butterfly and moth collection appraised at approximately $10,000! We’re told the collection likely dates back to the 1950s. Goodwill donated it to THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCE OF ST. LOUIS. Incidentally, MERS/ Goodwill has been granted Charity Navigator’s coveted four-star rating for sound fiscal management for the third straight year.

If you’ve always wanted to be a reality show contestant (think The Amazing Race), check out THE ST. LOUIS ADVENTURE CHALLENGE at Queeny Park Oct. 3. Co-ed teams of three will walk, run and bike a two- to four-hour ‘short course’ or a four- to eight-hour ‘long course’ for hidden checkpoints and clues. There is also a family category for parents and children under 18. Teams have until Sept. 3 to register online at

desperesmo.org

Kudos to KRISTY HOBBS, who is celebrating 20 years as a stylist at DOMINIC MICHAEL SALON. Recognized locally as an authority on the latest cuts and color techniques, Hobbs likes the ever-popular ‘bob,’ and for more adventurous clients, hair extensions.

A river cruise from Prague to Budapest provided the festive backdrop for SHIRLEY WEISS’ 70th birthday last month. A group of 35 friends from the St. Louis area accompanied Weiss on the trip and surprised the birthday girl with a cake and sparklers.

A familiar face is back in St. Louis to take the helm at the YWCA. ADRIAN BRACY previously worked as an executive for the St. Louis Rams for more than a decade and has served as the chief financial officer for the Arizona Cardinals football club since 2007. She officially took over as CEO for YWCA Metro St. Louis this month.

And the nominees are…It’s time once again to nominate your choice for this year’s WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARD, the oldest ongoing program to honor and recognize the volunteer efforts of St. Louis women. Nomination forms are available online at woastl.org. Deadline is Jan. 16. Honorees will be feted at a Ritz-Carlton luncheon in the spring.
