From now until Feb. 28, you’re encouraged to take part in the METRO ST. LOUIS CINDERELLA PROJECT, a donation drive organized by West Oak Cleaners and the Community Council of St. Charles County. Donations of used prom and special occasion dresses are being accepted at West Oak’s six locations throughout St. Louis, and will be distributed to deserving young women who are unable to purchase their own prom dress. Donated dresses should be cleaned and on a hanger. For those that need cleaning, West Oak is offering 20 percent off the cleaning of any donated dress.

VARIETY’s 45th annual Dinner with the Stars will feature Grammy Award winner PATTI LaBELLE as the headliner for the May 7 event at The Chase. The black-tie affair will also honor AMBASSADOR GEORGE HERBERT WALKER III  and PAT MERCURIO as the 2011 Man and Woman of the Year. JOE BUCK will serve as emcee.

The SAINT LOUIS ZOO is welcoming its first black rhino calf to be born there in 20 years. The as-yet-unnamed calf was born to first-time parents, mother Kati Rain and father Ajabu, on Jan. 14. Mother and calf are bonding in their off-display barn behind River’s Edge, and are expected to move into their outdoor habitat once the weather turns warmer.

Also at the zoo, a rare Amur leopard cub—one of the most endangered cats in the world—has made her public debut. Born last October, Anastasia has been with her mother, Mona, in a maternity den for the past three months. She’s now ventured out to explore trees, rocks and even snow. Anastasia and her mother can be viewed daily, for short periods of time, in the Amur leopard habitat at Big Cat Country.

Renovations are underway at the MISSOURI BOTANICAL GARDEN’s Ridgway Visitor Center, with the help of a $3 million gift from EMERSON. The renovations, which began last month, will create a world-class gateway to better serve the needs of the Garden’s hundreds of thousands of annual visitors. Improvements to the center include a new barrel vault roof, expanded restrooms and a reconfigured lobby.

The WHITAKER FOUND ATION has announced a $250,000 gift to the ST. LOUIS PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION’s Central to Your World campaign to help restore the Fine Arts Room in the newly renovated downtown central library. The $20 million capital campaign is a philanthropic effort to support the $70 million total restoration of the main library.

St. Louis-based KALDI’S COFFEE ROASTING COMPANY has gone Hollywood: The company served as official coffee provider for the 2011 Golden Globes Celebrity Suites last month, where a team of Kaldi’s staffers were on hand to brew and provide samples to a parade of stars, including DENNIS QUAID, GEORGE LOPEZ, JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT and the cast of Glee. Kaldi’s Awards Blend, created exclusively for the event, is now available at Kaldi’s local retailers.

KENNELWOOD PET RESORTS  has opened its seventh location in St. Louis. Kennelwood’s new facility inside the Pet Supplies Plus store in Ballwin offers grooming and spa services for dogs and cats. A grand opening event takes place Feb. 26.

Ladue News co-founder CHARLENE BRY wanted to make sure that LN readers are the first to know about her new book, Ladue Found, which is slated for release in April. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Bry Family College Scholarships Fund at Ladue H.S.  LN
