The votes have been tallied, and we now have the names of the nine finalists for the 2014 Ladue News CHARITY AWARDS. They are: ALMOST HOME, DOORWAYS, EASTER SEALS MIDWEST, LIFELONG VISION FOUNDATION, READY READERS, RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES, RX OUTREACH, THE MISSION CONTINUES and UNLIMITED PLAY. From this list, the names of the three Charity Awards winners will be announced in June. Stay tuned to LN in the coming weeks to learn more about the work and impact of these deserving nonprofits. Members of THE PRESS CLUB OF METROPOLITAN ST. LOUIS board of directors served as an advisory panel in determining awards finalists and winners.

The grandeur of Portland Place will be front and center at the upcoming 2014 CENTRAL WEST END ASSOCIATION HOUSE & GARDEN TOUR. Six historic mansions along one of St. Louis’ most exclusive streets will be featured on the tour, the first time in 10 years that these homes have been available for public viewing. Designed in 1888 by noted St. Louis private place surveyor Julius Pitzman, Portland Place is one of the few remaining World’s-Fair era private streets.

The 44th annual tour takes place Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, June 1, from noon to 4 p.m. An Opening Night Preview Party kicks off the event on Friday, May 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. House Tour tickets ($22 in advance, $25 at the door) are available for purchase at all Pulaski Bank locations, Coffee Cartel and Left Bank Books, or by calling the Central West End Association at 367-2220 or visiting TheCWE.org. Call the Central West End Association for Preview Party tickets.

Ladue News is a proud media sponsor of the 44th Annual Central West End House Tour.

Smile! LN is looking for beautiful smiles from kids (and grown-ups) who have BRACES. Send us a recent photo of you or someone you love sporting his/her best orthodontic smile by Wednesday, May 7, to be included in an upcoming edition of Ladue News. Email your photo with ‘Braces’ in the subject line to Julia Christensen at jchristensen@laduenews.com.

The search for LN’s 2014 LIL’ ONE continues! Is your tony toddler the one? The grand-prize winner will star in an upcoming fashion shoot with Ladue News fashion editor KATIE YEADON, as well as be featured in the pages of LN throughout the year. Submissions will be accepted through Facebook, ending on May 5. Voting ends on May 6 at 5 p.m. To enter, visit facebook.com/laduenews.

The talk of last year’s Tony Awards is coming to THE FABULOUS FOX. Kinky Boots, winner of six Tonys, including Best Musical, is making its St. Louis debut for the Fox Theatre’s upcoming 2014-2015 U.S. Bank Broadway Series. Also making its debut and opening the season on Oct. 21 is Dirty Dancing (based on the hit movie). The rest of the lineup includes Motown the Musical, A Christmas Story, Rogers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella and The Phantom of the Opera. Series specials for the season are Annie, A Christmas Carol, Million Dollar Quartet, Stomp and The Rat Pack is Back! For season ticket information, call 535-1700.

More St. Louis love: Stories of the visionaries, protesters and fearless-but-enthusiastic tradesmen involved in the building of the GATEWAY ARCH are chronicled in a new book. The Making of an Icon: The Dreamers, the Schemers, and the Hard Hats Who Built the Gateway Arch tells the story of architect Eero Saarinen, as well as the movers and shakers who had a hand in the monument’s conception and construction. The book is the latest from local author and journalist JIM MERKEL.
