They’re still swinging at the ST. LOUIS SYMPHONY over a successful Red Velvet Ball Swings! gala that featured WYNTON MARSALIS and the JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ORCHESTRA. A ‘Platinum Party’ was hosted by ARNOLD and HAZEL DONALD at their Huntleigh home the night before, where guests enjoyed cocktails, Creole cuisine and desserts, and entertainment from a jazz trio. Marsalis, the guest of honor, happened to be celebrating his birthday, so the hosts had a beautiful music-themed birthday cake wheeled out for him, and gala chair DAVE STEWARD presented him with a St. Louis Blues jersey. The birthday boy also played an impromptu set, much to the guests' delight!

Eighty-five years of chocolate…BISSINGER’S Handcrafted Chocolatier is celebrating 85 years in St. Louis this month with four days of surprises at its Maryland Plaza and Plaza Frontenac stores through Nov. 4. Offerings include special hidden ‘golden tickets,’ ‘1927 pricing' on classic confections like the Chocolate-Covered Molasses Lollipop, and free goodies for those 85 years young.

Happy 106th birthday to AUGUSTA ‘GUSSIE’ FEEHAN, who recently celebrated her special day with fellow residents and staffers at Bethesda Barclay House in Clayton. Gussie, who has been at Barclay House since 1995, still actively volunteers at her church, Christ Church Cathedral; and enjoys going to lunch and dinner with friends several times a week.

Kudos to our own MAGIC HOUSE. The renowned children’s museum’s Not-So-Haunted House has been recognized by The Weather Channel as one of the top 10 Halloween attractions in America. The Magic House shares the honors with other top-tier attractions such as Walt Disney World Resort, Central Park and Sesame Place.

THE MUNY’s 95th season promises to bring us one spectacular summer. The 2013 season, which includes four Muny premieres, will feature Les Misérables, Mary Poppins, Nunsense—Muny Style!, Shrek—The Musical, South Pacific, Monty Python’s Spamalot and West Side Story.

After two years of fundraising and planning, ground has been broken on the SHAW PARK RECREATIONAL TRAIL in Clayton. The trail is designed to enhance walkability and fitness by adding peaceful natural alcoves, gathering spaces and cultural experiences. The project is expected to be completed in the spring.

The ELLISVILLE DOG PARK is now open. Formed by a committee of ‘dog-loving’ residents, the park, located within Bluebird Park, is open for people and their pets from all municipalities. Membership is $40 annually for up to three dogs from one family.
