Coming attractions…The FOX THEATRE has announced the line up for its 2008/2009 U.S. Bank Broadway Series. Highlights include SPRING AWAKENING (winner of the 2007 Tony Award for best musical), Disney’s MARY POPPINS, Oprah Winfrey’s THE COLOR PURPLE, Fox Theatrical’s own LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL, CIRQUE DREAMS JUNGLE FANTASY and A CHORUS LINE. Off-series shows include Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd, Cats, Stomp, Hairspray, Riverdance and Rent, which will star two of the original Broadway cast members in lead roles, Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp.

A harbinger of warmer weather, CIRCUS FLORA has announced its 22nd annual production will be ‘SHERWOOD FOREST,’ a tribute to the legend of Robin Hood and his band of merry men. The show will run June 5 through June 22 in the air-conditioned big top in Grand Center. Tickets are on sale through MetroTix.

Speaking of Grand Center, the arts organization has announced its honorees for the annual Visionary Awards, which recognizes women for their contribution to the local arts and cultural community. Honorees include: Margaret Grigg, President’s Award; Sue Greenberg, Outstanding Arts Professional; Carrie Houk, Successful Working Artist; Ashley Tate, Emerging Artist; Jeanne Trevor, Lifetime Achievement Award; Lois Conley, Outstanding Arts Educator; Jane Ellen, Outstanding Arts Educator; and Emily Piro, Outstanding Young Artist. The women will be recognized at an event May 21 at the Sheldon Concert Hall.

A dog’s life…Newly-minted celebrity, Belleville native and winner of the prestigious Westminster Dog Show, Uno the beagle, made a personal appearance at THREE DOG BAKERY in Ladue recently. Uno showed up, along with his entourage, to greet hundreds of fans and help raise more than $1,000 for Barkley House, a nonprofit that provides temporary lodging in a home-like setting for people and their pets receiving treatment at the veterinary hospital at University of Missouri. Fact: Since winning the Westminster title, a certain part of the dog’s anatomy has been insured for $1 million to protect his breeding potential!

Congrats to State Rep. SAM PAGE, who recently received the Missouri Coalition of Alzheimer’s Association Chapter’s Leadership of the Year Award in a ceremony held recently in Jefferson City. Page is a pain management specialist in Creve Coeur.

Musical celebration…Kaleidoscope Israel, the community-wide celebration marking the 60th anniversary of Israel, announced the details of a special concert featuring Israel’s leading international recording artist NOA, or Achinoam Nini, on May 13 at the Touhill Performing Arts Center. Tickets start at $18.

Congrats to ROSEMARY WICK, founder of ST. ANDREW’S RESOURCES FOR SENIORS, recently honored with a 2008 Award in Volunteerism from Missouri First Lady MELANIE BLUNT and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The award recognizes Missouri women who devote their hearts and minds to enhancing the lives of Missourians. Wick’s organization has improved the lives of countless at-risk and low-income seniors throughout the St. Louis community.
