Kudos to SAM and MARILYN FOX, who were recently given SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY’s highest honor, the Sword of St. Ignatius Loyola, by university president FR. LAWRENCE BIONDI. The couple, widely known for their philanthropic efforts, were honored for their commitment to serving others and to social justice. Past recipients of the award include Harry Truman, Jacques Cousteau, Archbishop John May, and Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

    Congrats to the following St. Louis arts advocates who will be honored with GRAND CENTER’S 2009 VISIONARY AWARDSDONNA WILKINSON, President’s Award; JUDITH ARONSON, Lifetime Achievement Award; CAROL STAENBERG, Major Contributor to the Arts; ROSEANN WEISS, Outstanding Arts Professional; EDNA-PATTERSON-PETTY, Successful Working Artist; NICOLE LEMKEMEIER, Emerging Artist; and JESSICA HENTOFF, Outstanding Arts Educator. The awards honor women who have furthered the arts in unique and innovative ways and will be bestowed at a reception May 6 at The Sheldon Concert Hall.

    An artistic endeavor…More than 50 artists will open their doors in celebration of Crestwood Court’s (formerly Crestwood Mall) new ARTSPACE COMMUNITY, a collaboration between the mall’s management and the REGIONAL ARTS COMMISSION. The mall began offering vacant retail spaces to local artists for a nominal fee, and the result is an ‘artistic community’ that opens officially with a kick-off celebration May 2. 

    Attention, shoppers! The founders of the parenting Web site MYMOMMYMANUAL.COM have planned a Mother’s Day shopping event May 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the BRENTWOOD CENTER OF HEALTH. More than 20 local businesses, including THE MARKET AT BUSCH’S GROVE, THE TIME BOUTIQUE and BUILD-A-BEAR WORKSHOP, will provide gift ideas for Mother’s Day, graduation or no occasion at all, and each has donated raffle prizes.

    A stylish ride…Former WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT who live at THE GATESWORTH will arrive at the annual luncheon honoring this year’s inductees on May 12 by way of a stretch limousine! 

    A new post…DR. MARSHA CHAPPELOW has been named superintendent of the Ladue School District. She has been with Ladue Schools since 2004 and is currently associate superintendent. She will begin her new post July 1.
