National Council of Jewish Women has partnered with VDay, a global movement to end violence against women and girls through a benefit production of Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues. NCJW will present the show Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at COCA. St. Louis actor and director Stellie Siteman directs a cast of local women of diverse backgrounds, races and ages, including St. Louis County Judge Susan Block, psychologist Nanci Bobrow, food writer Ann Lemons Pollack, writer Susan Fadem, jewelry designer Diane Katzman and others. Congratulations to HOK founding partner GYO OBATA, who was recently recognized by the Arts & Educational Council for his lifetime achievement and significant contribution to arts in the region. It’s the first time the organization has honored architecture as an art form at its St. Louis Arts Awards. HOK is a global architectural firm with 26 offices worldwide.
In music news, Peter Yarrow, singer in the iconic folk group Peter, Paul and Mary, is coming to St. Louis May 4 for a concert at The Ritz-Carlton to benefit The Saul Mirowitz Day School-Reform Jewish Academy. Yarrow, a social justice advocate, has helped created a character-development curriculum called ‘Don’t Laugh At Me’ meant to help build a climate of respect in the classroom. St. Louis-based Rosemann & Associates has been chosen to provide architectural and interior design services for the renovation of the former Daniele Hotel into Hotel Indigo, a boutique luxury hotel. The $13 million, project includes plans to dramatically alter the façade by adding a fifth story and doing a complete rehab of the interior. Renovations will include a new lobby, exercise facility, pool and conversion of the current restaurant space into The Golden Bean and Phi Bar.
