Boys night out…GENOVESE JEWELERS hosts a men’s night out Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. to benefit the ST. LOUIS POLICE FOUNDATION. Guests will enjoy a cigar bar, putting contest, cocktails, Black Jack tournament and, of course, the opportunity to purchase jewelry for themselves (and their wives). For more information, call 878-6203 ext. 21.

Dog day afternoon…The ANIMAL PROTECTIVE AGENCY ASSOCIATION of Missouri is hosting its 18th annual Canine Carnival Oct. 5 at Tilles Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event features canine games, contests, photos and a parade. All proceeds benefit APAA.

The perfect match…SCOTTRADE has gifted SAINT LOUIS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA with the largest single contribution to a nonprofit in the online investment firm’s history. As part of the partnership, Scottrade will serve as presenting sponsor of the SLSO’s Holiday Celebration, Dec. 19 through 21.

Congratulations to PEOPLES NATIONAL BANK, which recently opened a new facility at 6400 Forsyth Blvd. in Clayton.

All aboard! ZOOMAGINATION STATION is now open in The Living World at the Saint Louis Zoo. The new discovery room for young children and their caregivers will help visitors investigate animal biofacts up-close, design their own habitats and create crafts to take home. The program is designed for kids ages 1 to 9.

Kudos to THF REALTY president and philanthropist MICHAEL STAENBERG, who recently pledged up to $50,000 in matching funds to LOOSEN THE LEASH, a new program that pairs abandoned and rescued dogs with juvenile offenders. The program was founded by noted area dog trainer CINDY VICKERS and hopes to awaken life skills in youth by having them care for and train the dogs. Staenberg pledged to donate $10,000 for each $25,000 raised.

St. Louisan JOANNA CAMPBELL SLAN’s newest book, ‘PAPER, SCISSORS, DEATH,’ will be a fun read for her fellow citizens. Set in St. Louis and full of references to neighborhoods and hotspots around town, the scrapbooking mystery got off to a hot start recently when more than 400 copies were sold in three days at Scrapfest in Minneapolis, the nation’s largest gathering of scrapbookers.

Excited about equestrians? Local enthusiasts will have the opportunity to watch some of the most talented horses and riders in the Midwest compete at the QUEENY PARK HORSE TRIALS Oct. 4 and 5 at Queeny Park.

Happy birthday to ‘DONNYBROOK’! The popular political round table program on KETC is celebrating its more than 20 years as a local resource for political and social criticism. Created by MARTIN DUGGAN and featuring regular appearances by BILL MCCLELLAN, RAY HARTMANN, CHARLIE BRENNAN and WENDY WIESE, Donnybrook is the highest-rated local program among PBS stations across the country. To celebrate the milestone, KETC will air a one-hour special, Donnybrook Full Circle, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. with a rebroadcast Oct. 12 at 10:30 a.m.
