Some 100 guests attended the Jewish Family and Children’s Service 12th annual Tree of Life Society event celebrating the organization’s high-level donors. Attendees at the event, held at Edgewild Restaurant and Winery, enjoyed wine-tasting, a learning session about wine selections and a buffet of food pairings.

Moms and children have a new hangout at The Nest, a stay-and-play creative café dedicated to offering mothers and children a place to socialize, eat, play and learn. To celebrate the café’s opening, guests enjoyed breakfast, presentations from ‘mom experts’ and free childcare at the Moms in the Know Breakfast. The new business will feature fresh, locally inspired food, mother-child classes, drop-in child care and a three-story indoor tree house.

Wallis Companies employees presented a check to Life Skills for more than $37,000 to help individuals with developmental disabilities learn, live, work and participate in the community. Since 2008, Wallis Companies, a family-owned business servicing more than 200 Mobile, BP and Phillips convenience stores, has raised more than $220,000 for the organization.

One hundred military brides and women engaged to active military members won free wedding dresses from Impressions Bridal and St. Louis Best Bridal in celebration of Veterans Day. Fashion experts from Dillard’s assisted the brides, who also enjoyed refreshments, a photo booth and the chance to win a rehearsal dinner and trip to the Dominican Republic.

The Young Professionals Network of the Regional Business Council announced its YPN Leadership 100 for 2014 at its Fall Networking Event at the Saint Louis Art Museum. The nominees, selected by peers based on leadership and service to the community, work to change St. Louis through business development, social connections and civic engagement. SLEVAWN, a coalition of organizations that support domestic violence survivors build new lives, hosted an awards recognition breakfast at Wells Fargo Headquarters. The group honored Scottrade, Alma Avdic-Bjedic and Jasmina Junuzovic of The Doubletree Hotel at Union Station, and Sarah Hellmann, among others, for their dedication to the cause.

Local companies joined forces with jewelry designer jenny present to host Shop For A Cause, to benefit Gateway to Hope. Guests enjoyed Champagne, music and sweets while shopping the jenny present collection. Simcha’s Events, Bittersweet Artisan Truffles, Festive Atmospheres, The Rosewood Ensemble and Rachel Closson Photography sponsored the event.
