Last fall, some 1,600 visitors walked through the doors of 15 Washington Terrace to view the first-ever Ladue News Show House. The event raised approximately $45,000, with proceeds benefiting our five charitable partners.

Our participation offered the opportunity to introduce visitors to the Wings program, raising awareness and interest in our mission. Proceeds from the Show House will allow more children in critical situations to be served by Wings, the BJC Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Care program. Services provided by our skilled staff, regardless of a families’ ability to pay, include Expressive Therapy, bereavement, clinical and hospice care—all in the familiar surroundings of home. We are developing a full calendar of events in 2012, including the Muny Pre-Show Party (Alladin), July 12 and 13; and Big Bear Brunch at The Ritz-Carlton, Dec. 1.

Because of the funds raised through this event, St. Andrew’s has been able to provide vital services to some of St. Louis’s neediest seniors, and for that, we are truly grateful. We were particularly touched by the fact that Ladue News made sure each charity was represented fully, and had the opportunity to spread the word of what they do in the community. St. Andrew’s has a few upcoming events, as well, including our first-ever Derby Brunch at the historic Hawken House, May 6; and the 10th year of our Ageless Remarkable Saint Louisans event, Nov. 11 at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at the Arch.

With the Ladue News Show House, Brightside St. Louis did what it does best: bring volunteers together to accomplish a task…We anticipate using the contribution from Ladue News to purchase tools and supplies for our volunteer efforts… Brightside is celebrating its 30th anniversary in several ways. Most recently, volunteers planted 500,000 daffodils in public areas throughout the region…Also, we will be cleaning up city neighborhoods and planting flowers, including downtown and along I-64 in the Gardens at Lake Louie. Phase II of our demonstration garden will be implemented this year, and educational workshops will be held this summer and fall in our new learning center.

—Mary Lou Green, executive director, Brightside St. Louis

Your generous donation will help provide a ‘home-away-from-home’ for families of seriously ill children who are receiving medical treatment at St. Louis hospitals. This year, in partnership with the Clarkson Eyecare Foundation, we will be launching a Ronald McDonald Care Mobile to visit schools to provide eye care for underserved children. We are also excited to announce that our West Pine House, will be receiving several necessary updates to become even more comfortable for the families who call it home. Planning is underway for our four special events: the 27th annual Cassidy Turley/RMH Golf Tournament, third annual Ronald McDonald House Ride, 12th annual Kids & Clays Tournament and 19th annual McDonald’s Scramble for Charity Tournament.

Humane Society of Missouri is celebrating the opening of a new grooming center at its Macklind Avenue headquarters, in conjunction with Kennelwood, to keep pets healthier and happier. Other outreach programs include the Humane IQ educational course for at-risk students, disaster response and an animal cruelty task force that reached more than 25,000 animals last year. The organization also worked with the Animal Protective Association and St. Louis County Animal Control to plan the county’s new animal shelter. Another cooperative project between the three agencies is the upcoming March launch of StlLostPets.org, a website designed to make finding lost pets easier.
