I have a 4-year-old son (he will proudly tell you that he is now 4-and-a-half), and his favorite question is, But why? He will ask, quiz and exclaim this question so many times a day, that toward evening, my restless reaction when he asks is to ask the question right back. When I do this, he inevitably gives me a one-word answer: Because. And so it is.
Marking an important date, like a birthday—or even half-birthday—is something we all do. This month, I will have been the publisher of Ladue News for one year. I am very proud to be a part of LN because I think it truly is the gold standard of our city’s local publications. While this is an important anniversary for me, to our faithful readers, this year marks LN’s 30-year anniversary. Thirty years is a long time, and it is worth celebrating.
You—or my son—may ask, But why?
Because it is well known that St. Louisans are generous in their support of good causes and for 30 years, LN has been the premier publication showcasing our local charities. Week after week, we highlight charitable events and galas because we want to call them to our readers’ attention to encourage their support.
Because for 30 years, LN offers information about the community in which we live, especially our local schools. We all take pride in where we went to school, and for some, we take pride in our children’s—and grandchildren’s—schools.
Because for 30 years, LN has brought you information about local businesses since we know that supporting local industries is important to our readers and your support makes them stronger.
Because LN knows that you like to travel. For 30 years, we have taken you to exciting destinations, and sometimes to places you’re already familiar with, but always with new and interesting insights.
Because food and wine remains an important aspect of our readers’ lives and for 30 years, LN has offered generous servings of ideas and recommendations.
Because for 30 years, we have showcased local professionals to share with you their insights about health issues, legal issues, financial issues and life issues.
Because for 30 years, trends have come and gone, and LN is always at the forefront to bring you what is current and exciting.
Because for 30 years, LN has announced engagements and celebrated weddings to share good news with our readers.
Because LN features the best real estate that St. Louis has to offer, and for 30 years has been the print media of choice for premier real estate in our market.
In celebrating LN’s anniversary, I must admit that I am most excited about its future. In 1981, when LN was started, the concept of interactive media was limited. At present, we are innovating our medium to reach a more diverse readership without losing sight of our roots in the community. We have recently launched a terrific new website (LadueNews.com), and continue to have a strong social media presence on Facebook and Twitter. To further our innovation, I am pleased to announce that we are developing the LN app for iPad, which will be available soon.
Thank you for joining me in celebrating this anniversary, as we look forward to the next 30 years.
