Discovering Options hosted its 4th Annual Stakeholders Appreciation Celebration, “Cirque de la Vie” Saturday, July 14, 2008 at the Four Seasons Hotel. This festive evening, sponsored by The Private Bank, Renaissance Financial, and Purina, featured silent and live auctions including exquisite home furnishings, abstract art, jewelry, and spa packages. Most guests affixed personal embellishments of flair to the standard bow-tie and gown enhancing the colorful circus-themed environment. Also on hand to dazzle the attendees were jugglers, magicians, and a trapeze artist.
During the dinner program, KMOV anchor Vickie Newton served as hostess and Marti Gurley was awarded the 2008 Explorer of the Year.
Discovering Options is a St. Louis-based agency that provides at-risk students in local public schools with supportive and life-enriching programs to prevent drug abuse. These students are living with risk factors like family conflict, poverty, lack of commitment to school, behavior problems, and neighborhoods where drugs are easily accessible. To combat these circumstances, Discovering Options delivers after-school programming to children up to the seventh grade. During the course of this program, students participate in a variety of cultural enrichment activities including art, dance, theater, cooking, and yoga. At the completion of the elementary program, students are paired with a trained positive adult mentor who introduces the children to new experiences and positive learning environments.
