On Nov. 4, the Catholic Student Center at Washington University held its annual Newman Gala and Auction at the Ritz Hotel in St. Louis. This year’s theme “World of Wines” featured a wide selection of wine from Chandler Hill, Brutocao Wines, Café Napoli, and Flemings, and beer from Schlafly Beer. Before dinner, guests enjoyed appetizers and tasting the various wines while bidding on silent auction items. Guests then moved into the main ballroom for dinner, award ceremony, live auction, followed by dancing.
Washington University Chancellor Mark Wrighton received the Newman Award in recognition of a lifetime of faith, values, and service that emulate the mission of the Newman apostolate. Chancellor Wrighton has recognized the Catholic Student Center efforts to be a house of Catholic formation and a community of hospitality to students of all faiths by being open, inclusive, and responsive to the needs to the University. Event co-chair, Juan Ferreira said “The CSC gives a strong faith to a strong generation.” Funds raised assist the development of student leaders in both the church and community.
