Thinking about laying down roots? Any city is bound to have a few desirable nooks and crannies, but according to these real estate professionals, St. Louis is jam-packed with ideal neighborhoods. Before you buy, see which areas these agents prefer and why.

Elaine Medve, Prudential Select

It’s interesting when people move here from out of town and you tour them around the city. Their reaction is always the same: Oh my gosh, you have such beautiful neighborhoods! We are very lucky that we have such wonderful neighborhoods. If you ask me where I do the most businesses in, I would say Clayton and Ladue, but also Kirkwood and Webster Groves. People today are looking for a residential area with wonderful schools and an urban feel. If you’re asking me where my favorite place to live is, I’m pretty crazy about Clayton—I’ve lived here for 35 years.

Mary Beth Benes, Coldwel Banker Gundaker

When you’re in Town & Country, you feel like people are always walking around. In the last year, they’ve installed these wonderful sidewalks where you can literally get from one side of Town & Country to the other while being safe. It’s close to parks, and the schools are nice. There has been a lot of activity in Town & Country, especially in the last year. Even when the market was a little bit slower, Town & Country stayed strong.

Ryan Shakofsky, Coldwell Banker Premier Group

I’m going to have to stick to my alma mater: Kirkwood. I like the size of the lots and the variety of the houses. There is a unique feel, house by house; Kirkwood is not a cookie-cutter neighborhood. The schools, the downtown area and the community as a whole are great, as well as the proximity to the interstate—you can get anywhere in 15 minutes.

Elizabeth St. Cin, Laura McCarthy

In Warson Woods, you’re walking distance from several parks, a neighborhood pool, tennis courts, grocery stores, coffee shops and restaurants. It’s a very walkable neighborhood. It’s for all ages, and I love that. There are lots of neighborhoods in St. Louis that offer many of the same amenities; Warson Woods is my favorite out of all of the options. Before we moved here, we moved 11 times in nine years; we’ve been here in Warson Woods for 31 years now.

Andy Dielmann, Dielmann Sotheby

I live in the Creve Coeur house I grew up in. I think it’s a great area; the proximity to everything is just so nice. It’s in a good school district. It has great shopping, medical offices, hospitals and restaurants. It offers a good quality of life. It has a diverse housing stock in all prices, ranging from beginning to luxury with old homes, new homes and condos. We have great city amenities, such as a golf course, an ice skating rink, several parks and free leaf, limb and garbage pick-up.

Mike Winfrey, Janet McAfee

Brentwood is close to everything; we consider this the crossroads of near West County. There is convenient shopping in Brentwood. We’re in the shadow of Clayton and Ladue, which means we’re able to enjoy everything they have to offer as well. It’s a very good blend of commercial, city life and residential; we live near a park, which is a major draw. We’ve been here for 25 years.

Ellen Casey, Prudential Alliance

To me, the most desirable area is Clayton and its the surrounding areas, such as Brentwood, Richmond Heights, Maplewood and University City. I was raised here, I live here, I work here, I play here. These neighborhoods are conveniently located near shops, restaurants, downtown Clayton, the Loop and downtown Maplewood. They offer diverse architecture—each house is unique. And I love the community events offered in the area, such as the Clayton Art Fair, the Maplewood Farmer’s Market and the Canine Carnival in Brentwood.
