Since Joe and Georgana Linneman opened the doors 51 years ago, Mari de Villa has welcomed residents with pampering services and a warm family atmosphere. This month, the community debuted eight new luxury suites in the west wing, and president Fred Wiesehan says demand has been high. “Five of the eight suites have been reserved, and some will soon be occupied, but we do have three still available,” Wiesehan says. “The new suites turned out beautifully. The luxurious finishes complement the superb architecture, and everyone comments on the spaciousness. Even the bathrooms are oversized!” Just as lovely outside as in, he adds, every private balcony or terrace in the new addition offers a water view or formal garden view.

For residents receiving physical therapy, the all-new rehabilitation center on the second floor offers equally wonderful views, along with state-of-the-art equipment and services from Rehabilitation Professionals Inc. (RPI). “We’ve used one of the prime spaces for the rehab room. It overlooks the lake, with French doors leading to the balcony,” Wiesehan says. “The owners of RPI told us, We’ve never seen anyone else do this. Often, the rehab room in hospitals or retirement homes are not very appealing. We have seniors anywhere from 75 to 100 years old, getting their therapy in this gracious, beautiful setting—it really is remarkable.”

Residents looking for entertainment or conversation don’t have far to go. Just below the rehab center, the lower level includes a relaxing lounge, complete with a baby grand piano. “It’s a wonderful gathering space,” Wiesehan says. “Just right for movie night, or maybe a game of bridge on the terrace overlooking the lake.” The 27-acre grounds also include a new formal garden.

The community offers graduated levels of care: independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing. The east and west wings, explains VP Mary Kay Wiesehan, offer an all-inclusive pricing format that includes three meals per day, daily housekeeping and all personal laundry. “Our private room rates are very competitive, and many items considered ‘extras’ in other communities—such as personal care products for special needs—are included in the price. We’ve talked to our residents and their families, and created services based on those conversations,” she says. “There’s a daily snack cart that goes from room to room, and we have social hours every afternoon with live entertainment. Everything was designed with our guests in mind, with no extra or unexpected costs.”

While the new west wing suites have been quite popular, the Villa Estates continue to be in demand, Wiesehan says. “These are true luxury residences, anywhere from 1,000 to more than 3,000 square feet, some with a lower level and private elevator. Our Villa residents especially enjoy the Villa Estates Club, a beautiful facility with private dining rooms, an indoor pool, salon, and work-out room.”

The warm family atmosphere at Mari de Villa is apparent throughout, especially with the Wiesehans, “As owners,” explains Fred Wiesehan, “We don’t just work on site—we live on site. This is our home, too!” The couple’s son, Fred Wiesehan III, recently joined them in the business, following his graduation from the University of Missouri.
