Just because construction is completed on Mari de Villa’s new Waterford Wing, doesn’t mean the excitement is over. The retirement community, which sits on a 21-acre campus in Town & Country, currently has three construction projects underway, says president Fred Wiesehan.
The grounds also are bustling with many remodeling projects, including a new salon, marble therapeutic Whirlpool bath area, new dining sunrooms, and the remodeling of the private rooms and suites of the East and West Wings, Wiesehan notes. In addition, a new apartment building is being constructed on the east side of the lake, with expected completion in late 2013.
Mari de Villa offers a full range of care, including skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care and independent living options. All of the rooms are private rooms or suites, Wiesehan says. “We continue to offer some of the most competitive rates in St. Louis while offering all of the amenities—without compromising beauty, comfort—and most important, care,” he says. “When a rate is given, it is inclusive. There are no large ‘buy in’ or up-front fees, and there are never any extras that we arbitrarily add on to a guest’s bill.”
That translates into a predictable payment, which encompasses all of the services Mari de Villa has to offer: 24-hour nursing care (including medication administration and incontinence products, if needed), meals, housekeeping, laundry, cable television, daily social hours, live music, exercise programs and more. “We also have a wonderful new physical therapy department, by Rehabilitation Professionals Inc.,” Wiesehan notes. “They offer physical, occupational, speech, rehabilitation and restorative therapies. It is in a beautiful area overlooking the lake.”
The benefit of offering a complete continuum of care on one campus extends beyond residents being familiar with the surroundings, Wiesehan explains. “They’re familiar with us, and our staff is familiar with them,” he says. “After a number of healthy, good years, some villa residents might require more assistance, so they move to the skilled areas—the transition is just beautiful.” He adds, “One of the areas that we are the most proud of is the longevity of our nurses. In an industry where the average turnover nationwide is about 100 percent annually, the average length of employment of a nurse at Mari de Villa is 12 years. Not only do our guests see the same nurses day after day who they enjoy, but the families do, as well.”
In addition to skilled nursing, assisted living and memory care, the Villa Estates offers independent living in their one- and two-bedroom villas. Although all of the villas are currently occupied, Wiesehan says Mari de Villa keeps a waiting list to fill the five to six villas that become available each year. “The villas start at $250,000 and range in size from 1,000 to 3,000 square feet. They are totally remodeled for the incoming resident,” he notes. “It’s designed so that they can live there as long as they want, and have all the services available to enjoy the amenities. They just pay a monthly fee, which I’m comfortable saying is probably the lowest in the St. Louis area. It has worked beautifully for 28 years.”
