When Susie and Jonathan Sachs started looking for a new home about five years ago, the couple knew they wanted to stay in Ladue. While Jonathan, who works at CSI Leasing, is from Atlanta; Susie, a stay-at-home mom, is from the area and attended Ladue H.S. With three children—Rebecca, 10; Jessica, 8; and Andrew, 2—the family appreciates the high quality of the Ladue School District, as well as the closeness of their preferred shops and restaurants. Susie recently spoke with LN to discuss more about her favorite aspects of the community.

What is the best-kept secret in Ladue?

I have been going to Monteleone’s Fine Tailoring in the Schnucks Plaza at Clayton Road and Lindbergh Blvd. ever since I was young. I think it’s a place that not as many people know about, and they just do a great job.

What are some of your favorite places in town?

We love Lester’s—it’s so quick, convenient and very kid-friendly—and in the summer, we like to walk to Chill or Baskin Robbins to get ice cream. I also enjoy the small boutiques like MACS Designs, where you can get some really unique blouses and shirts, or Vie for upscale items for special occasions. And I love Schnarr’s Hardware—they have such great service and I want to support the family-owned businesses.

What is your family’s favorite neighborhood tradition?

They just brought this back last year after many years, but for homecoming this past October, Ladue High School held a parade through the neighborhoods from the middle school to the high school, and we participated, which was so much fun. I was a Ladue cheerleader and my daughter got to wear my old jacket in the parade.

Neighborhood Notes

Sally Stephen, Dielmann Sotheby’s International Realty

To start, Ladue is in a prime location with great highway access and it’s easy to get anywhere. There’s also its unique character—there is nowhere else like Ladue in St. Louis. It has maintained the small-town feel with boutiques instead of big malls or stores, and I also believe that the quality of life is superior. The schools are excellent and people who have children gravitate toward Ladue because of its reputation.
