After enduring what seemed like an endless bout of cold, rainy and bleak weather, we’re all ready to embrace the sun. But for many women, the approaching summer months signal the arrival of a yearly ritual they’d rather skip: swimsuit shopping.
The most common problem areas are thighs, buttocks, love handles and the abdomen, according to United Laser Clinics medical esthetician Kym Palmier. “You can have lumps and bumps at any age and size,” she says. Palmier recommends a cellulite treatment device called VelaShape. “It’s the first and only non-surgical, FDA-approved method for body shaping and circumferential reduction,” she notes. “It treats both the deeper tissue and upper layers of the skin with no downtime and minimum discomfort.”
Palmier says the ideal treatment is once a week for six weeks. “We take measurements and pictures at the beginning and end of treatment to show results,” she says. “Most patients see gradual and cumulative results during the treatment.” She says when used as an enhancement to a healthy lifestyle, this approach targets hard-to-improve body zones and leaves skin smooth and firm.
“We have a personal trainer using VelaShape to target an abdominal pouch, for example,” she notes. “It’s also great for post-baby mothers, and for women going through a weight-loss process.” Palmier explains that VelaShape features ‘Elos’ technology, a combination of bi-polar radio frequency, infrared light energy, and vacuum and mechanical massage. “There are two handpieces: a large one with rollers and a vacuum for cellulite reduction, and a contour handpiece that targets specific areas for circumference reduction,” she says. Each VelaShape treatment lasts up to an hour-and-a-half.
In conjunction with VelaShape, Palmier suggests ReFirme, an FDA-approved skin tightening procedure for the face that also utilizes Elos technology. “It’s the lunchtime face-lift with no downtime,” she says. “We usually do half the face first, and when we compare it with the other half, it’s amazing to see. The treated side looks six years younger!” Palmier says, adding that the procedure is ideal for both women and men in their late 30s to 50s, providing an instant lift in the eye, cheek and jaw area.
“It’s great for a professional who is competing in a younger market, someone getting ready for a 20th high school reunion, or a mother-of-the-bride or -groom who wants to look their best on that special day.”
Each procedure usually takes one hour, with three treatments every three to four weeks recommended. “You can walk away immediately six years younger in one visit,” Palmier says. “Plus, you’ll see results continue to improve for up to six months following the session. It’s a fabulous tool when gravity is no longer a friend.”
