Trend section: Rocker Chic

St. Louis tends to be a pretty conservative town, so I was surprised to see how many boutiques are embracing the rocker-chic look that was so big on the fall runways. Of course, one should never go all-out on any trend, so try a leather jacket (the piece of the season), some stud details or mix in some plaid for a little British-Invasion feel to give your everyday favorites an edge.

Must-Have:

Transitional Scarves

One of the best transitional items for shifting seasons is the ever-popular scarf. With their light weight, fun patterns and the ability to make any outfit look twice as chic, I sometimes wonder how we lived before these were such a staple.

Everybody’s Carrying:

House of Harlow beaded ‘Marley’ clutch

Nicole Richie’s line, House of Harlow, has been nothing short of hugely successful. From Bohemian-style clothing, ‘it’ sunglasses and jewelry that has been spotted on just about everyone, Richie seems to have her pulse on what every stylish girl wants to wear. And her beaded ‘Marley’ clutch is no exception. With a nod to the late designer Alexander McQueen, this rocker-inspired handbag is highly sought after, so rush to grab yours at Ivy Hill.

Line I Love: Gypsy05

Southern California style is all about effortless cool and organic fabrics. And brother-sister team, Osi and Dotan Shoham are doing that brilliantly with their line, Gypsy05. Established in the spring of 2005, Gypsy05 holds environmental awareness as a core philosophy, incorporating organic fabrics, soy softeners, low-impact dyes and seaweed-extract printing into the collection. And the collection itself is made up of relaxed designs that are rich in color and details. The featherweight fabrics utilized throughout the collection are super-soft and can go from day to night effortlessly. A celebrity favorite (Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba and Lauren Conrad are fans), Gypsy05 has the perfect pieces for everything from running errands on the weekend to a night out on the town.

Gypsy05 is available at Cha Boutique.

Clair de Lune

Lingerie shopping can be a daunting task for most women. Especially considering there haven’t been many local lingerie-focused boutiques in our city... until now. Clair de Lune is filling that retail gap and has opened its first St. Louis store in the Granaway shops in Ladue. The boutique, whose name means ‘moonlight’ in French, offers upscale European-style lingerie and bras in an intimate boudoir setting. The concept originated in 2004 in Overland Park, Kan., and has been extremely successful. What makes Clair de Lune exceptional is the scope of merchandise and services offered: It specializes in bras and bra fittings, and offers an extensive selection of sizes, as well as caters to special needs like maternity and post-surgical requirements.

As owner Terry Levine puts it, “At Clair de Lune, you feel special, and your needs are met—no matter what your situation.”

Philip Lim for Target

Target has done it again. This fall, everyone’s go-to discount retailer is partnering with esteemed designer Philip Lim on an exclusive fall collection of women’s and men’s apparel and accessories. Winner of the CFDA Emerging Talent Award in 2007 for Womenswear and 2012 for Menswear, as well as Accessory Designer of the Year, Philip Lim has no shortage of accolades by the fashion industry.

“One of the reasons I wanted to collaborate with Target is because I felt that, together, we could create a collection that would inspire—one that is cool and chic, but still very accessible,” Lim says.

3.1 Philip Lim for Target is a sophisticated and fashion-forward collection that is both beautiful and functional. Featuring a classic fall palette of both neutral tones and prints, the line contains versatile, affordable pieces that modern men and women who want to look effortlessly chic can wear on-the-go.

Available at Target beginning Sept. 15.
