On Trend: Nautical Style

It’s the heart of summer and with the Olympics just around the corner, it’s hard not to feel especially patriotic. And don’t you know, the inner prep in me loves all the nautical-inspired fashions I’m seeing everywhere. So don’t be afraid to wear your red, white and blue—it’s a look that never goes out of style!

Everybody's Wearing

Reese Witherspoon once said, If it’s not moving, monogram it, and living in Saint Louis, we definitely abide by this mantra. We love to monogram everything from our cars to our iPhone cases. So it’s no surprise that the monogrammed necklace has made its comeback in a big way. Spotted on the necks of Christina Applegate, Lauren Conrad and Taylor Swift, Jane Basch’s take on the monogram necklace is classic but cool—especially when layered with your other favorite chains. Available in 14-karat gold and sterling silver, as well as in four different sizes, it’s easy to personalize the perfect necklace for your style.

Must Have: Cocktail Rings

Have you noticed that jewelry seems to be getting bigger lately (statement necklaces, stacks of bracelets, oversized earrings)? Rings are no exception. The bigger, the better— and you don’t have to spend a fortune to wear this bold look.

Egg Baby

As I pulled into Outdoors a few weeks ago to find a Father’s Day gift, I did a double-take when I saw the clean. modern sign for the new children’s boutique, Egg Baby. I recognized the line from my trips back to New York and was thrilled to find out we now have our very own store (the only other free-standing store is in Tribeca, NYC). Opened by Rennie Levin, a Philadelphia native who has recently moved to St. Louis, Egg is an infant and childrenswear line designed by Susan Lazar. Susan translates her modern, fashion-forward sensibility to the children’s market with this designer brand at an incredibly affordable price point. Her clothes have been on seen on the kids of Pink, Natalie Portman and Sarah Jessica Parker, just to name a few. The store also carries crib bedding and blankets, as well as accessories for babies and moms. Rennie is hoping to go beyond just retail and schedule some baby and mom classes, as well, from creative art classes to baby CPR. Now that’s a one-stop shop!

Wai Ming

Every woman looks for the perfect dress to wear to the office, brunch or cocktails by the pool. Well now, you don’t have to look very far. Emily Koplar has designed her first collection under the brand Wai Ming and her focus is bright, fun and versatile dresses with a fresh and timeless quality. Born and raised in St. Louis, Emily honed her design skills in Paris (interning at Ralph Lauren) and New York (designing for Vivienne Tam and Aeropostale). Wai Ming, which means ‘gift of light’ in Chinese—is Emily’s middle name and a tribute to her family’s heritage. This contemporary apparel collection blends uptown refinement and sophistication with a youthful, downtown edge. And because Emily divides her time between New York and St. Louis, her collection works effortlessly from city to city and coast to coast.

Stella & Dot

More often than not, when I notice a great looking piece of jewelry on someone, I come to find it is Stella & Dot. If you don’t know, Stella & Dot is a direct-sales jewelry business where women all over the country hawk bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings to their friends in the comfort and convenience of their home. Their one-of-a-kind collections are designed by celebrated New York designers and have been featured in TV’s Gossip Girl and in In Style and Lucky magazines, as well as on the wrists and necklines of today’s hottest celebrities. The pieces are high quality and perfectly on trend. They also have a host of timeless classics, so it’s the perfect line for all ages and styles. I find myself coveting at least one of their ‘statement necklaces’ every season.

To check out this fabulous line in person, the next trunk show is being held at Brio at Plaza Frontenac on Tuesday, July 10 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. For questions, or if you can’t make the trunk show, contact local stylist Rachel Sokolich at stylistrms@gmail.com or you can see all the jewelry at stelladot.com
