On Trend: Color of the Year
As you may have heard, global color authority Pantone has declared Radiant Orchid as its 2014 color of the year. A charming shade of purple that pairs fabulously with denim, black, greys and even olives and yellows, here is a selection of my favorite radiant orchid pieces available now at local boutiques.
The Best... Clutches
Clutches have become the ‘it’ style bag, and I love the fun spring colors I’m starting to see arrive in stores. Add a pop to any outfit with these crayola-colored styles!
Must-Have: My Other Bag
On my very first fashion page got LN—back in February 2011—I featured a canvas bag with a printed Hermes Birkin bag on it. I thought it was such a fun idea: an iconic purse printed on a canvas tote bag! At the time, you could only order them online, so I was thrilled when I spotted them at Cha Boutique a few weeks ago! Owner Sarah Garlich has done a fantastic job ordering a slew of different shapes and styles featuring so many different fabulous bags.
My Other Bag founder and creative director Tara Martin created these bags out of a desire for a fun and chic disposable bag to take to the grocery store. As written on her website, “My Other Bag is an ode to handbags women love, bags that are in the fabric of our culture and history. Every woman has her go to bag, her dream bag, her going out bag. My Other Bag is the perfect complement to these bags we love!”

Every woman’s favorite gift to receive on Valentine’s Day is that ‘little blue box.’ And this year, Tiffany & Co. has quite the offering: a collection of pieces featuring the Morganite stone. Named after financier and Tiffany patron, J.P. Morgan, gems of this size, color and quality are rare occurrences. Featured in the wide bangle is a 74.27-carat stone, as well as pear shaped beauties showcased in earrings and a pendant, to name a few. Surrounded in brilliant diamonds, these dazzling masterpieces are the ultimate gift.
clair de lune
9727 Clayton Road, 993-3232, clairdelunelingerie.com
Mon.-Sat. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed Sundays
Women of all shapes and sizes are enjoying clair de lune, the area’s newest bra and lingerie boutique.
Clair de lune opened 10 years ago in Kansas City, but only recently expanded to St. Louis, opening its Ladue store last August.
In addition to romantic lingerie, comfy sleepwear and undergarments by top designers like Stella McCartney and Elle McPherson, the store carries a large range of sizes (from 24 to 52 band size and A to K cup size.) It also sells high-end sports bras, as well as mastectomy bras and maternity sets.
“We know how frustrating it is,” store manager Ana Martinez says. “We all have our battles of some sort—we want to help everyone. When you’ve exhausted all your resources in the department stores, hopefully that’s when you find us.”
Employees of the store help customers find the right bra for them by taking their measurements and considering their body type. Owner Terry Levine says that 85 percent of women wear the wrong bra size, making bra-shopping difficult. “We give that personal service and one-on-one attention,” she says. “We take all the guess work out of it for you. You can concentrate on getting something that looks and feels good on you.”
Styles at clair de lune range from lacy to casual to cozy, from nighties to bras to flannel pajamas. Martinez says the store offers a wide range of price points, though most brands are high-end. The store also offers private parties after hours, giving women the chance to shop with their friends, get a discount on purchases, and feel uninhibited when trying things on in the search for the perfect fit.
