F. Schumacher & Co., which since 1949 has catered to the St. Louis design community with a to-the-trade fabric showroom, is generating a lot of buzz and business with its new Martyn Lawrence Bullard collection—and with good reason. Not only is the collection a great one, but Bullard himself is buzz-worthy. Handsome, well-spoken and highly entertaining, the English ex-pat has been making the rounds in all the top design magazines (more than 60 covers to date!) and is the author of a new design tome, Live, Love & Decorate, which features the interiors of his many high-profile clients. Bullard has also been embraced by the blogging community, having charmed the socks off the overwhelmingly female audience at the 2012 Design Blogger’s Conference, where he received a standing ovation for his hour-long, seemingly off-the-cuff presentation. Bullard’s new fabric collection for Schumacher reflects his passion for exotic looks, luxurious materials, and unexpected color and scale. Included are prints and wovens, many derived from antique textiles, including exquisite ikats, embroideries, tree of life prints, hand-woven silks and silk velvets, and wool paisley. Produced by some of the finest printers and weavers in the world known for a tradition of creating textiles using artisanal methods, many of these fabrics incorporate hand-made elements, giving them a stunning, one-of-a-kind aesthetic.
