The St. Louis design community has an opportunity to be among the first cities in the nation to open a chapter of Dwell with Dignity, a nonprofit foundation headquartered in Dallas with a singular mission to help families escape poverty and homelessness through the power of design, one household at a time. The Dwell with Dignity volunteer corps is composed of interior designers and corporate supporters dedicated to creating soothing, inspiring homes for families by designing, providing and installing home interiors that include furnishings, art, bedding, kitchen supplies and food in the pantry.

Dwell with Dignity was the brainchild of founder and interior designer Lisa Robison, who used a nest-egg birthday gift from her husband to launch the nonprofit in April 2009. Dwell with Dignity is based on her belief that while good design can improve the quality of life, it is beyond the reach of those who need it the most. “Our goal is to bring good design to those less fortunate, inspiring them to maintain a standard of living they can be proud of and thrive in,” Robison says.

The design community and corporate supporters in Dallas (including Neiman Marcus, Horchow and The Container Store) have rallied to support the organization with fantastic results. To date, Dwell with Dignity has installed more than 20 beautiful interiors for worthy families struggling to get on their feet.
