When Alex Davis and Isaac Wouk describe how they met, how they became engaged, and how they got married, one thing is prevalent: laughter. The two joke and tease and smile at each other in a way that only those experiencing true love can.
Alex and Isaac met at Bar Louie in the Central West End, where they were both out with friends. The chemistry, Alex says, was immediate. “He came up to me at the bar, where I was drinking wine, and he asked if he could buy me a pin-ot grig-e-oh,” she laughs. “I thought he was funny, and we got to talking.”
“And by talking, she means she interviewed me for, like, 10 minutes,” Isaac adds. “She grilled me, hard!”
The two hit it off, and spoke on the phone for a few weeks before Alex finally consented to a date. They dated for three years, before one Thursday night, when Isaac tied an engagement ring to the collar of their cat, Rancho. “She came home and I was sitting on the couch holding the cat, trying to get her to notice the ring on her collar,” he says. “I was practically pushing the cat in her face. She finally noticed and started freaking out.” Isaac got on one knee and officially proposed, before suggesting the pair go to Bar Louie for a glass of pin-ot grig-e-oh. To Alex’s surprise, waiting for them at the bar were all of the couple’s family and friends, including Alex’s brother, whom Isaac had flown in from Chicago.
The couple tied the knot a year later at Westwood Country Club. Alex says she wanted the black-tie affair to be clean and classic, but also incorporate Isaac’s Texan roots: “Modern but comfortable, with Southern charm.” Right after Isaac broke the glass at the end of the ceremony, guests celebrated with Alex’s favorite, Champagne, as well as Isaac’s home-state brew, Shiner Bock. Attendees enjoyed sushi appetizers, a surf-and-turf entrée and midnight breakfast tacos; and danced to the Downtown Band, a cover band the couple brought in from Nashville. The couple’s dog, Jolly, even stopped by for some quick photos. On their way out, guests received Nenekas, the bride’s grandmother’s famous chocolate chip cookies.
To unwind after the wedding festivities, the newlyweds took a week-long ‘mini-moon’ to the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach. That August, they traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, and Santorini and Athens, Greece, where they explored historic sights, swam and relaxed.
